He's worth more than £4m for sure. But I would say we'd be fortunate to get more than £6-£8, and far likely to be nearer £6m. That's just my view and I think he's been great for us. If ho goes, Kevin Mcdonald on loan would be an ideal replacement. We also have Coutts chomping at the bit to play of course, but we'd need another to compete in there.

If we sell for £4 million it shows you the kind of small minded idiots running our club. I don’t care if it’s a clause in his contract the fee should be higher! He’s an ever present and crucial to how we play and set up.

That being said I’m sure CW has a replacement lined up ala Norwood or he won’t be going anywhere in this trf window.

The one thing to keep in mind in all of this is that Wilder has stated in the past that he has full control over the sale of players. If we sell for £4m there must be a good reason for it.

Can't believe there's a Jags 4 million clause surely???

If not, I can't begin to grasp how we can entertain 4 million, especially as we seem to have improved our stance on outgoing transfers since Wilder arrived.

Then again this is Sheffield United and we have plenty of previous for this shit.

So he's done nothing to deserve a new contract yet many on here feel that £4m is way below his real value.

It's the Blades way.

Well, yes. He was playing considerably better than he is now when he signed his current contract.

The minimum release clause theory is the worrying one as that definitely has a ring of truth, I seem to think we’ve been there before
Jagielka comes immediately to mind.

It's a very common practice and there's little the clubs can do about it, it's either agree a release clause in my contract or it's cheerio.

I would think that any ambitious player would want to go down that route.

If he wants to go this late in January you tell him to get fucked and wait while the summer.

Chances are he doesn't want to go, as a general principle, but then when a PL club comes in for any of our players and you know they can tripple their wages then would you want to stay at United?! As you say we hold the cards though and we can only wait and see what happens.

And surely a fee should be based on current form not past performance?

Hence we got Ollie Norwood for half of the rumoured Fleck fee.

Kevin Mcdonald was the worst one in my view. Jags was obviously a better player but we had money to spend then, having just got relegated from the PL. £4m wasn't a bad fee at the time, although it sounds low now. But McDonald going for an initial £350,000 was a joke and is why he always get booed since. Saying that if Fleck leaves I'd take McDonald back in a heart beat!

I’ll be gutted if he goes and that would be a huge blow to our chances this year.

Nothing to worry about.
We would only sell if we have a better replacement lined up.

Maybe we plan to sell Fleck and bring in McDonald from Fulham.

I know Flecks not been as dominant this season (often seems slightly below par) but 4 million still seems a bit low.

4 million would be painful.

Definitely has a feel of a contract clause too. If so, someone hide J o'Cs contract as fuck knows what they've snuck in his.

4 million. ffs

Why would we sell him any earlier in the window? We would have to spend the money we got for him then.
Fuck sake!

I wouldn't expect the club to give them a choice at this stage

Digested this a bit now and still can't see this happening, certainly not for that fee.

Would have to be an absolute minimum of £6 million for me to even consider starting to be OK with it and only then if we have a replacement lined up.

It does make me think back to CW's interview last week where he said we may have another Norwood situation with 1 in and 1 out but i'd assumed this meant Leon/Hogan.

As for replacements there's 3 at Fulham i'd be happy with but barring them can't think of any others off the top of my head.

If he goes, for whatever price, you'd have to assume it's because CW/AK have a way of improving the squad and you can be sure it'll be via a method and with a player(s) none of us will have foreseen.

Any decrease in fee potential should be made up for by our league prospects and the timing. Not that I think his value should have changed much, it's no time ago that he was at his best.

If we’re discussing his market value then I’d say around £5-6m sounds about right for him.

£8-10m and you’re talking the best central midfielders in the division - the Fulham lads last year, Will Hughes a couple of years ago etc.

He’s very good and a rare commodity given his left foot. However, he’s never dominated games at the top of the division whether on form, or not and I feel would struggle in a 4-4-2 as he lacks the required qualities at both ends of the field; defending, goal scoring, physicality etc.

His value to us, in what we’re trying to achieve this season far outweighs the £4m on the table and outweighs the £7-8m we could possibly hope to achieve for him. It’s January, replacements aren’t readily available. This would set us back considerably. I’d be hugely disappointed if we choose to sell right now and I’m sure Wilder would be too if his hand was forced.
