Well from our perspective, if a player has to leave to get a crack at a national team the level of Ireland and Scotland then that’s not good. It’s actually important to some players, and for some this can force a move away from a club they are happy at.

In Fleck’s case, the tangible benefit for us might be that we stand a better chance of keeping him in the next couple of transfer windows if he doesn’t feel that moving would enhance his chances of Scotland caps—see, eg, Jamie Murph, who is on record as saying he had to leave us to get capped (even if it was really about paying for the Desso ).
