Fleck - Master Assister

I wouldn't even need to know how many assists he had to realise he's our best player. Assists might not matter to some, and in a way those people do have valid points but there's no coincidence that Fleck has the most, if we'd have put more of our chances away Fleck would've had 30 odd assists by now, he's different gravy.

The tackle he did on Saturday to set up the attack for the Hanson goal just shows that you don't need actual assists to recognise the real effect a player has on our side, unlike the praise Coutts keeps getting for keeping the ball moving whilst letting players run past him, cue people saying don't split opinions on our great midfield.

Well guess what, Fleck deserves every bit of credit he gets because he has at least given his whole in every game he's played even when things haven't fallen for him.

Keep it up Flecky lad, the Coutts lovers will come round to seeing an all round proper midfielder sooner or later. I feel this needs saying time and time again because some people are reluctant to appreciate him and divert his threads onto other players like Coutts, who let's face it, has played a lot better this season but has had no where near the effect Fleck has had.

I haven't had a 'favourite' player for yonks. Last one was probably Deano.
John Alexander Fleck is my new fave :)

Gonna be a great 'assist-off' with Marcus Madison on Saturday

Wiz, you've actually diverted the thread onto Couttsy!!

Paul Coutts played at least as well as Flecky on Saturday. Fleck hardly had a touch in the first half-hour. I wouldn't have mentioned this but for the wholly unnecessary divisive tone that has crept in lately. Why we can't just appreciate three (maybe five now, thank Pele) fantastic proper footballers instead of deriding one to praise another, I can't imagine. It's bonkers. All three have very different qualities that happen to complement each other superbly. Flecky's goal was a terrific piece of individual skill and a delight to watch. Couttsy and Duff also produced moments to savour. What's not to like, as the modern idiom goes?

As for assists. As long as the stats credit only the final touch before that of the scorer, they will mean little. No assist for Duff (my man of the match by the way) for his brilliant run and pass for the second, says it all.

I ❤ the Three (maybe Five) Amigos.

Best natural footballer by a mile? You may be right tyles but I would go for Duffy and then of course coutts and coming along Carruthers, not saying you are wrong pal but whatever its bloody great to pick four out who could have arguments to say they are the best, considering they are all very good narural footballers

The others get plenty of individual recognition. Everytime Fleck gets mentioned it suddenly becomes a case of, " well yes but they're all good"

Well I for one think it's time that he got as much love as Duffy and Couttsy-Come-Lately. Because as I said earlier, he's fucking brilliant.

I tend to agree that any statistic taken in isolation can be misleading, and that simply looking at assists alone would be an overly simplistic approach. However over an extended period stats tend to become more reliable (the top assisters in the Premier league are such no-hopers as Giggs, Lampard, Gerrard etc) - and given the fluid nature of our midfield, each of three have a fair chance to provide assists - indeed Duffy tends to play further forward and arguably has a better chance of doing so - perhaps balanced by the fact that Fleck takes more dead ball situations.

For me, I am firmly in the camp that I like all three of our midfielders - and Carruthers shows great promise too. Indeed I think it is our midfield which has really made the difference. Our goalie is ok, our defence is generally solid, our attack can be a little one dimensional, but our midfield is (IMHO) Championship class.

"5 foot 6 and hard as fuck he plays for Sheff United,
Tackles hard and sets goals up he gets the Blades excited..."

No I haven't pinchy, I was just getting my point across.

Anyway, I agree that all our midfielders are a joy at times, especially Fleck and soon to be Carruthers like I called from the very start. :)
