Apologies if already appreciated by all, but I was struck by the extent to which Fleck is way out ahead on the official Assists table (from the blades website), with more than double any other player. Given he also tackles more than Duffy & Coutts - he has had a phenomenal season - especially given he didn't cost a fee

TOTAL
ASSISTS
John FLECK 14
Mark DUFFY 6
Paul COUTTS 5
Kieron FREEMAN 4
Billy SHARP 4
Caolan LAVERY 4
Matt DONE 3

I'm guessing that a lot of it is because he takes most of our free kicks around the box. That doesn't take anything away from him though as he's still got to put a decent ball in.

He could be on 20 if someone had managed to get on the end of some of his corners every once in a while

Coutts and Duffy are often providing the pass that releases the assister (see Duffy doing most of the legwork for Hanson's goal).

But Fleck seems to have the better ability at splitting a defence with one pass from much deeper as he has provided for Sharp on a few occasions.

Ohh, I suspect you're being sarcastic Sheffers.

They are a useless measurement of a players ability.
Take our first two goals on Saturday. A whipped in free kick which 19 out of 20 times is collected by the keeper. This is number 20 and he drops it into Billy's knob and it's a goal. 1 assist for hitting a free kick which should have been dealt with.
Contrast this with a goal where 3 players played integral parts in the build up and without their contribution there is no goal. 1 assist for a good pull back from the goal line. No-one else gets any credit in "Assist" world.

Here is the list for the division. http://www.espnfc.co.uk/english-league-one/25/statistics/assists

I wish we had Josh Morris - 18 goals and 9 assists.

He's just fucking brilliant to be honest. He's been the very nucleus of pretty much every good thing we've done this season so far. The best natural footballer we have by some distance.
Best natural footballer by a mile? You may be right tyles but I would go for Duffy and then of course coutts and coming along Carruthers, not saying you are wrong pal but whatever its bloody great to pick four out who could have arguments to say they are the best, considering they are all very good narural footballers

Terrific player and 14 assist so far... wow, when did we last have a player who got 14 in a season?

Mention for Duffy though, because I think he could / should be on about 10 himself. More than any player the amount of times he has put it on a plate only for a player to miss it. Done, O'Connell and Sharp have all been guilty from memory.

(Groovy kind of love)

"Anytime they want to
They can flick it on to
Anyone they want to
Anyone at all"

"When they start to gel
No other team matters
Cos they go and batter
Every side"

"Wouldnt you agree
Our best midfield three
Is couttsy fleck and duff"

(Phil c)
still there could be others
especially Carruthers
and chris basham as well
wouldnt you agree
weve a really good team
and a bench thats swell

Dont know. Dont think any Blade made as many assists in a season as Woody did in 1969-70 . 29 assists and he scored 21 goals too. I read that Jimmy Dunne scored a lot from Fred Tunstall's assists hence the Green Un headlines "Tunny Dunnit!"

Cheers mate. I rarely wish I was older but oh to have seen Woody, TC, Badger etc al play in the flesh. Profoundly jealous of those who did.

So far, I'd say he's the best all rounder.
