It's losses in this league. Capped at £39m in three years. If a club signs player for £20m on a four year deal the fee is seen as an asset and written off over 4 years at £5m per year. That's charged against income. If after year two, and they sell for twenty million, they have a ten million profit.
In 2016 Wolves had £9m profit on player disposal for example.

Wolves could lose £40m in 2017 and still be okay.

If I’m getting this does this mean if we lose £10million this season but sell Brooks for £20million we’d be £10million in profit with only 2 of the 3 years remaining meaning we’d be able to lose £39million plus the £10 million we were in profit in the next 2 years? And also means the pigs are in shitcreek as they haven’t brought a penny in through transfers but lost a fortune in wages in the last 3 years?
