First Blade player you saw being sent off

Williams broke Tony Humes' nose, not Cransons.

My first was Peter Beagrie in the Portsmouth game where 4 went in 1986-7. It was for fighting and the Pompey player was also dismissed - I think Billy Gilbert.

I had been going since 1978 and had been a regular since 1982 and Beagrie was the first United player sent off in a home game in that time. The previous one was, I think, Eddie Colquhoun in 1974. Different times.

There must have been something really punchable about Tony Humes then, because Sunderland's Marco Gabbiadini was also sent off for hitting him at Roker Park in 1989. Gabbiadini had just scored the third goal of his hat trick and, for some reason, broke off from his celebration to stick one on the Ipswich centre half.

Can't remember the first I saw, but started watching late 60s, and by the early 70s Trevor hockey must have been my first.
Never sent off for us.

There were only 4 sending offs for us between May 1967 and February 1974

May 1967 - Ken Mallender in 1-1 draw at Man City

August 1972 - TC at Peterborough. 4-0 win in Watney Cup

March 1973 - TC at Everton. Lost 2-1

February 1974 - Mick Speight in 0-0 home draw against Stoke

After that... Ken Badger at Stoke in October 1974 and Eddie Colquhoun against Norwich after a punch up with Phil Boyer in November 1974

.

Billy Gilbert was already dismissed some minutes earlier. It was Mick Tait that Beagrie clashed with. Kevin Dillon was the third Pompey player to get the red card before half time

The Lane crowd went berserk at the decision and threw fruits at the ref!

Aw, bless! Throwing 'fruits' (not just 'fruit') sounds so 1952. An innocent time in another world.

Do we have any substitute players sent off within the first five/ten/fifteen minutes of them entering the match?

Not sure how far you will stretch your 'five/ten/fifteen minutes'?

Palarse at home in 2010. Bogdanovich came on as sub in the 66th minute, scored and was sent off in the 87th.

The game was also memorable for a very rare Ched Evans Championship goal.

Can't remember mine and I hope it's nobodies first time seeing a Blades player sent off today!

I think it might be Alan Cork at home to Blackburn in 93/94. Although my brain is telling me we might have had 2 players sent off that day.

"Seen" being somewhat of a broad definition of course, as I actually forgot my specs that day so couldn't really see much detail.

I had my first season ticket that season so if a home else was sent off, at home, that season, then that would have been the first.

The year after Beesley got sent off on Boxing Day for two stupid handballs in about the first 20 mins against Middleborough. We drew 1-1 (Hodges) having taken the lead.

As well as Gillespie's antics, Steve Neville got sent off at Scunthorpe in our division 4 season less than 5 minutes after coming on.

And I don't think Jamie Ward had been on for long when he got sent off in the playoff final.

Bradshaw was also sent off, I think for trying to cut Alan Shearer in half.

I'm sure there's more, but the only two I recall are Killgallon at Hillsborough and Jamie Ward at Wembley. Both by the same ref.

The first one I actually remember was Jimmy Hagan, can still picture him walking off. Bramall Lane was stunned and I think that's why I remember it so well.
