Fantastic result today, high energy and the crowd was tremendous. So important to get our first win. I’m bracing myself for a roasting but a worry for me was the way we played in the last 10. Hoofing everything upfield like the last minutes of a giant killer cup game will cost us. We can play so I’d like to see a bit more composure.

I can understand the nerves forcing you to drop a bit deeper, but you have to have an out ball when you do that, otherwise you're just asking for trouble

We defended brilliantly but it only takes a split second for something to drop to an opponent in the area and it's 1-1

Nerves played a crucial part in today's performance just like it did that day against Millwall, but we came through it and seventh in the League

Something Warnocks team would never have managed

There are no Millwalls in the Prem. Nobody is going to aerial bombard us like we saw today, these arrogant Prem sides will keep thinking they can just stroll right through us.

Same as I said last week. Our only mistake was being a bit too cautious. Same again today. I think if we'd kept pressing we could have won by a bigger margin. That in mind, we've played two teams that focus on counter-attacking football, it's the start of the season, and you can't really fault us for not being more ambitious from day one.

And, in spite of us playing so deep for the last half hour, Palace never looked threatening. It wasn't backs to the walls desperate defending, it was very comfortable. Not that I wasn't bricking it every time the ball went in our half, just that we completely shut them out. You'll not see a team close a game out better than that.

I didn't know I wasn't giving them a break, it's certainly not how I meant it to sound
I think United were fantastic, they caused problems, were never under any pressure and were succesful in killing the game off.
I would just like them to be 2-0 up before they start killing it though.

These teams were playing, one chance, bang, goal.
As I said it was a nervous afternoon with a hell of a lot at stake for us, first home game back and the eyes of the world waiting to say what a load of shite we are.
We've done magnificent to overcome that

Absolutely agree with all of that and my post wasn’t a criticism of the game today, despite some going into meltdown. Just a considered opinion that if we simply sling the ball back every time we try and see a game out teams with more to offer than Palace will punish us.

Total credit to the hardest working and “together” blades team I have seen. I do believe however that the best way of seeing a game out is to keep possession. We missed easy passes and control and made last ditch clearances giving possession to them in the last few minutes when it wasn’t needed. It just isn’t us and going to the corner flag is a Jack Charlton tactic that nearly always wastes a few seconds but gives possession away. Minor point on what was an awesome performance.

I do not agree with some of the blatant timewasting today, but it was hugely important we saw that result out so we can forgive it. I thought Sharp should've come on for what looked like a tiring McGoldrick to defend better from front.

Reminded me very much of the Brentford game when we were promoted from league one, nervous excited emotional energy throughout the game. That will calm down now we know we can hold our own.
