Tierney and Lee Mason. Two refs that epitomise how shit refs can be at the highest level. All the expenditure on trying to ref the game for them with VAR and Hawkeye but how about training them to be actually competent referees?

As Chabuddy G states, the refs don't ask VAR to look into something. It's up to VAR to interfere and tell the ref they're looking into something.

So you expect a Ref to overrule the technology that has had a 100% success record to date? That would have opened him up to absolute pelters had he got it wrong.

Give over, even now, 2 weeks after, nobody has verified that it wasn't working.

We know it wasn't, but that's not the official word from Hawkeye.

P.S By not working, I mean not turned on, which is 100% the reason.

The one detail to add is that ALLEGEDLY it had not failed before. I think it is the case that the images we see are computer-generated, and all have taken on trust that they are accurate. If it could be so wrong on the Villa goal, that trust is broken. Apologies if my hazy knowledge of how technology works is incorrect.

True, it is used in the other divisions and not every match is on TV with multiple camera angles. So how do we actually know if Hawkeye hasn't failed before over something similar?

the ref & VAR trust Hawkeye, as to be fair its never failed before so why shouldnt they. however, in the melee that ensued, as Norwood is speaking to the ref, wouldnt it have been common sense (see this is where im fucking up now) for VAR to say

'the Blades players seem quite agitated about this, lets just have a quick look, tell the ref weve checked it and its a no goal, and their players will shut up...............hang on........ errr, ref, problem, looks like it was a goal, go check the monitor yourself please'

that would have taken 15 seconds surely?

True but I'm pretty sure all officials where under the understanding that it was 100% accurate and therefore had no reason to doubt the fact his watch didn't indicate a Goal.
The Blame is with the technology company who operate the system and my anger is towards them especially with the crap excuse they came out with at the time.
The Premier League are also not blameless and should have been onto the company the next day demanding a full explanation after all they are paying for the Product.
It all seems to have been forgotten about now. Although I do think the officials and VAR will double check any incidents from now on.

You could well be right. The fact is, they messed up big-time on a simple decision, with no credible explanation given, and there needs to be a decision on what happens to ensure that this fallible system has a fall-back position (how about the Lino trusts their own eyes?), because we now know it is not 100% accurate, even if it’s only because they forgot to switch it on.
