My take on this is probably way too simplistic, so I welcome being enlightened on this one.

One of the reasons for introducing the transfer window was (I believe) to restrict the super rich clubs from just buying another superstar to help fulfil their ambition of winning the league (for example).

With introduction of FFP & the Profit & Sustainability rules, is there a need for transfer window at all?

Clubs can only now spend within their means and with the recent action/pending action against Everton, Forest and Man City, it seems those powers are now being used to some effect.

It was actually brought in because the EU insisted. Otherwise contracts would fall under normal employment law whereby like you and me you could just serve you notice and move employer without a fee being paid.
