Femi Seriki

but why doesnt brooks do that more often very frustrating player imo for me he plays the safe ball backwards far too often
One-on-one attacking isn't as much part of the game as it used to be. That's why Jérémy Doku in the Premier League is seen as such an outlier. If an attacker takes a defender on and loses the ball, chance are that they're then out of position and the opposition can launch a counter attack. On Brooks: his dribbling stats are pretty good; he's 49th out of 366 players in the Championship for successful dribbles per 90 mins (1.3) and he's got an above average success rate (38.5%).

We're also talking about a player turning out for possibly the most risk-averse manager in the league. Wilder would much rather a winger play the safe ball with us retaining possession 9 times out of 10 than take on what's pretty much a 1-in-3 dribbling option.

Wilder spent all last season trying to replace Seriki so I’m not convinced he rates him for whatever reason. Signed Shackleton, Gilchrist, Clarke and ended up playing Choudhary there rather than give Seriki a start.

I think he’s one of the best players to come out of the U21s for a while and gives us pace and physicality massively missing from the team.

I think that’s a bit harsh. We couldn’t just rely on Seriki, and Wilder was dead right to try to get experienced help in, even if those endeavours always seemed to go wrong.

In his first season, Seriki could equally be brilliant, defensively suspect, or just injured. And we still need another right back to share the load now. I love watching Seriki, but when his only real backup is poor old Ben Godfrey it ain’t enough.

Brooks can be as good as he wants to be. That run towards the end when he sized up the left back and beat him with ease showed what he is capable of. I also like that (most of the time) he looks after the ball too and he has a great understanding with Seriki.

I just have a suspicion that he gets into his own head at times and if the first couple of plays don't come off he loses it a bit. Hopefully we've got a team working with the players on that side of things because, frankly, the mental side of elite sport is just as important as the technical and physical. Just my opinion.
This is exactly my view on Brooks. His mentality can hold him back but I feel if he ever gets it to click upstairs then he could go far. He has all of the physical attributes. I sometimes question his intelligence too and is that something that can be coached/taught?

I'd not heard Femi speak much before the post match interview.
Came across well , very humble and level headed and a nice lad all round .
Great performance and goal yesterday , well done young un 👏.

If he’s good enough for you
He’s good enough for me
He’s who we pay to see
He’s Femi Seriki*

He was terrible tonight, comparable performance with that of soumare against Norwich .
His goal seems to have gone to his head as he needs to get back to basics.

Him and Brooks have been great down the right, both awful tonight

He gave his man too much room, his first touch was terrible, he gave the ball away on too many occasions and his crossing was awful.
He is currently first choice right back and must get back to previous levels of performance or he will lose the shirt in January

Yes he was poor tonight but he wasn't our worst full back on the pitch....

One of the few players in our squad who has the sort of athleticism premier league clubs look for. He may still not have the stature and strength required (thinking of DCL and Osula) but I think his speed and agility mean he has a better chance of stepping up than someone like Peck.

Rate Femi.

He hesitates on the ball too frequently and takes too much time getting the ball under control but that aside, he has a lot of positive attributes to make the shirt at RB his own.

Brooke’s is criminally underrated and is vastly superior to Ogbene.

In the last month alone, Femi, to his credit, has improved in the areas I have previously picked up on. Credit where credit is due.

Brooks continues to impress while sharing the wide right starting spot with players who are no where near as good, which is baffling.

Continues to be criminally underrated and mostly, it would seem, by the gaffer.

Absolutely incredible this kid couldn't get in one of the worst teams in Championship history just 2 years ago after unimpressive loans at Rochdale and Boston. I also remember his debut against Forest under Hecky when you wondered whether he might be one of those "one game Blades".

Up until last season I presumed he'd be another Kyron Gordon or Harvey Gilmour. It's insane how far he's come on in the last few years

He's impressed in the last month especially as he has no rotation.

I wouldn't rate him as better than Bogle yet but 6 months like the past one and he would be up there

I think he has finally gained the trust of wilder as has brooks to a certain extent

Looked a player since that Huddersfield pre season game

Fantastic player already but massive potential to go all the way. As I have said on here a few times I well recall him coming on in second half against Sunderland at home last season. Both teams were down to 10 men but Sunderland had looked better team. Seriki took the game to them running at full back and he singlehandedly drove them back. Tom Davies scored the winning goal. Femi gets better and and better each match and his link up with Brooks is great.

I do feel we will have clubs enquiring about him, hope we say nope & he doesn't have his head turned. His current trajectory would be better served with us for another season.

I think hes better than bogle is or was in the championship, hes more athletic, aggressive & faster.

Hes also started to add the assist to his game now and becoming a real attacking threat, and chance creator for us.

Agree he is better than Bogle. In my view massively so but haven't seen Bogle since he went to Leeds. I never thought he was good enough to be a regular in EPL but what do I know?

I’ve watched Leeds on tv a lot recently as they are playing entertaining attacking football ( hate saying that ) and Bogle really looks the part, even his defending

I think he does have the strength, built like a brick shithouse. Like u say hes got everything a PL team looks for and what he doesn't fully have yet (positioning and a better feel for when to push on and when not) will come with experience. Remind me of a young Kyle Walker and I will be amazed if a big team doesn't come in for him in the next 6 months.

As always we need to make sure we get maximum value for him and I think that's a LOT of money in todays market.
