Bobby Ford for me. He was the original. Monty, Doyle, Hammond all nowt but imposters

I once had a drink on eccy rd with a few players Monty Quinn etc .Montgomery was far and away the most professional out the lot of them .He never touched a drop his attitude and will to succeed was immense.

Tony Wagstaffe, Bob Widdowson, Denis Finnegan.

Michael Doyle for me, awful player.
Absolutely, he is a massive symbol of our decline, the fact he played over 200 games for us makes me feel ill and shows just how shit we really were.

As for the poll, got to be Monty, poor guy used to get dog's abuse yet various versions of our team in League One would have been crying out for a player like him.

Shame we can’t pick more than one. Dead heat between Monty and the ginger Messi where I sit in the south stand amongst the morons
Monty was a shocking 'player'.. player?? i once saw a proper punch up in the Westfield corner over that prat.

so much so that they were queuing up to buy him.. NOT.

Hang on. I thought we were discussing players who didn’t deserve to be slagged off and hence are scapegoats?

If we are discussing terrible players then the answer is obviously Andy Taylor.

I blamed Michael Doyle for everything that went wrong at the club while he was here, he was a scapegoat for me, but I justified this by the flagrant trade descriptions act violation of him calling himself a 'professional footballer'.

Neill Collins is another that needs adding to the scapegoat list. George Long also

I wouldn`t necessarily agree with that. We won a higher percentage of matches when he played than when he didn`t.

Look, I have no axe to grind with Michael, I'm fairly sure he'd have made a great traffic policeman with all the shouting, pointing and looking busy that he did. It just so happened that he decided to come and play for the Blades instead and he was really bad at it. No one will ever convince me otherwise, my eyes know what they saw.

Who's the best we've ever had?

Don't know about the best but Gil Reece was the first. When subs were introduced in the 60s he always seemed to be the one who Harris pulled off. Those were in the days of a single sub and they weren't even used half the time.

Those mentioning the likes of Collins and Doyle are getting the term "scapegoat" mixed up. They were just fucking wank.
