An interesting development as Des was out there viewing more Bulgarian signings. Is the technology shit or the man using it without any knowledge of football, my guess the latter as they’ve kept Jamie Hoyland. This is probably one of the more positive steps by the board this summer, now let Selles choose who he wants to get the job done next season.

I've got a feeling Selles isn't going to be doing much of the choosing when it comes to players. It could well be that he's quite happy with that anyway

it seems Selles is a coach who develops players quite well.

On the same topic, do we think Wilder and Knill developed many this year? Peck could be an example. Any others that we feel kicked on? You could argue Campbell was well micromanaged.

Or do we feel that this is also an area the owners sought to improve?

I don't think Peck developed that much overall. He's got enthusiasm and energy but his passing is very hit and miss and positionally he's all over the place. He reminds me of kids starting out in football where they go wherever the ball goes whether their team is in possession or their opponents. One game he was good, the next two to three he was average to poor and rarely played well in two matches back to back. If it wasn't for Arblaster getting injured he'd have barely got minutes off the bench. I like him, he's okay, but I think like with Wilder some of our fans focus on the badge thumping instead of the actual football.

Managers who work with Directors of Football and Sporting Directors etc, can still sign their own players if they want (provided DoF/Sporting Director agrees), one way of looking at it is short term (manager) vs long term (DoF) in regards to recruitment.

Caceres, Nwachukwu and Ukaki are long term development signings, it's very likely that Cannon was signed as a long term option by the club, compared to Moore who was signed for the short term.

While a chunk of the recruitment might be spearheaded by the club rather than Selles, I'd be surprised if we don't sign players that he wants as well, he might even prefer the players the club put forth rather than his own.

Do people think tge re ruitment team just what's app player suggestions to each other ?

They have a budget and identify areas of the team that needs strengthening and then players who can fit into that budget

This is what we will be looking to improve on
How we identify what needs to improve and how we identify who we bring in

Arblaster was coming along nicely, Burrows too. Not to mention Seriki. I think they've always improved players, older ones and younger ones. There was major improvements.in Anel and Souza last season as well

Well that’s the big fear for me…As a manager/coach you’ve got to be able to look a potential signing in eyes and see where his motivation comes from…Yes, that is a big Wilderism…But it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Like with everything, its also about how the person in charge delegates responsibility and trusts their opinion.

I doubt Wilder was tracking every player and working out who he liked, who he didn't like the look of. There must have been an element of opinions being given and he then either listened or ignored.

He would have then given his shopping list to the board and then left it with them to see if they could make it happen.

My view on it is that AI is given the role of making suggestions (Selles will be able to do the same and I am sure give some form of opinion if there is one on the AI list).

The board then see what they can make happen. The difference is that the AI list is likely to be less well known people so should be cheaper and could be seen as more of a gamble. But I would also suggest the same can be true of lots of recommendations that humans have made even in the past few seasons... (Max Lowe, Jamie Shackleton (willing to be convinced otherwise) Beni Traore, Slimane, Larouci, the list goes on.)

I can't see AI being involved other than to compliment our overall recruitment strategy. Could Wilder have lived with that? probably not.

We all know what Wilders approach would have been, ignore the AI and fill the team with good solid Championship pro's with a couple of L1 potentials thrown in. Quite clear the Board see the way forward differently, hence the change.

It's a big fear from me too. But maybe we're just going to have to see where it goes .

It's not a big Wilderism btw. Just good football team management, pretty certain any good and successful manager would say the same and character matters in all walks of life.

The Yanks are chucking a lot of money at this I presume. Their backgrounds suggest they are a bunch of highly intelligent guys. Maybe we'll just have to trust them

Yes, I do trust them. But the “taking risks and failing fast” policy, may indicate a new revolving door era for the club.

I'm guessing someone will deselect the Bulgarian filter on the AI results now. We might get someone from North Korea 😄

Anel and Souza improved because we were playing at a lower level. I'm not convinced that had we been promoted that they would have stepped up to the challenges of the Premiership.

Men are as bad.

I've never investigated it but I bet 90% of men have tall and athletic on their dating profiles.

When you've got Oddjob from the Bond movies putting that description, you know something is amiss!
