EDIT BY FOXY - Apologies, didn't see SotonBlade had already created a thread... Merged mine into this one...

Mick has left the club today which came as a shock to me. I've not needed the assistance of Mick, but I know plenty that have.

I know he posts on here and helps where he can. Just like to say all the best Rooks and I hope the club don't live to regret you leaving the club.

Christ, that is a bolt from the blue. Top bloke is Mick. All the very best to him wherever he ends up.

Sad day for SUFC.

Merged - I'm assuming what I've heard is correct, regardless, even if it isn't my points still stand, short and to the point and I've no idea if you'll even see them :)

I'd like to thank Mick ( Rooks ) for all his (normally above and beyond) efforts while employed by SUFC.

From helping make my day as mascot back in the days of a three sided ground, selling me away travel when we nipped down after school right through to just having a random chat in and around the ground, it's always been a pleasure.

I've known and witnessed first hand the effort in going above and beyond the call of duty to help fellow Blades you've put in and it's appreciated by many.

I was intending to pop in at some stage over the next couple of weeks and have that promised chat about SuperDraw and to pass something on to a friend you've made through work, sadly, it looks like that won't be happening.

All the best and I hope you won't be a stranger!

PS - I'd like to remind everyone of the incredibly sensitive nature of the situation the club and it's staff find themselves in. Here isn't the place for speculation or idle chatter about such matters and I'm sure I don't need to remind most of you that people just like you will be effected massively and will be reading. There will be a number in this position, some we'll hear about, some we probably won't, but the situation remains... These aren't all footballers, they are blades fans and normal people, with normal pressures and mortgages/families.

I would like to join Foxy in the sentiments expressed above.

Events like this expose the "How dare they treat Monty and Cressy like this?" rhetoric for the sanctimonious nonsense it is.

All the best for the future Mick. Hope you stay a Blade!

Here here. Sad day if its true. Thanks Mick for I don't know how many years hard work. Always a helpful familiar face.

NA NA NA NA - Hes a Blade and Hes a Blade.

I'll be using the internet for tickets now ,as I only used to go down for a chat with Mick (always ended up on Stuart Adamson) good luck pal. :(

I also echo the sentiments above. Rooks is a top bloke and it's a massive shame seeing people like him leave the club.

I find this an incredible decision. At a time when club spending is going to be related to turnover we need to be attracting new and more fans through the gate.

You can only do that with people like Mick Rooker doing what he's been doing, a lot in is own time, helping so many Blades with any problem or question.

Anyway I just hope you can move on from this Mick and you go with our humble thanks and best wishes for the future.

Mick has been a honorary member of the Scandinavian supporterclub and has helped us in many ways for years - information, tickets, away transport, guided tours, but most of all a friendly face to meet whenever we've been over. On behalf of the Scandinavian blades, thanks for all your help Mick, very sad to hear you're leaving.

Absolutely terrible decision; Mick was one of the key parts of the club. Without him I wouldn't have my signed Deano poster and shirt on my wall at home. Wonderful servant to the club. Good luck in the future.

Hmmm, sad news, a seeming ever presence from my adult supporting life has left the club.

All the best Rooks.

FUN FACT: Rooks once fired me from selling 50/50 tickets 'cos I wasn't selling enough, serves me right for standing next to the 19yo women selling them

Beyond reason. All the best Mick, a great guy, always got time for every single Blade, whoever is behind this has made a serious, SERIOUS error of judgement.

All the best rooks. You will be missed around the place.

Wow indeed. I'd like to echo all the above sentiment. I certainly remember Mick helping to make my day too, when I was a mascot back in 1993. I thought you were meant to reward loyal service. What a shame.

It will be interesting if these are redundancies?......if they are it means the jobs/roles no longer exist.

I thought if they want the roles to continue within another job description they would have to advertise such jobs.

Does this mean no away coaches???

I need to brush up on my employment laws.

They have set up a new structure with new job roles which people had to apply for. I have not seen the new structure or job titles/roles but,as an example, I would have thought there would be only one manager for the pools and ticket office(including Legends of The Lane) which would put Emma Wylie,Mick Rooker and John Garrett all at risk. Do the club need McCarthy,Winter AND Batho....one of these to run the Operation ? Again just examples

Not sure it helps to compare behind the scenes staff.

One or two players would have been the way forward to me.

I do realise they may be extra to the ones already pencilled to go.

I don't know the details but you're correct in that's exactly how it works. A horrible process in which it's usually the case that those who precipitated the downfall aren't the ones to suffer.

Can only echo all the good things people are saying about Rooks. It's the people that make a place special. None more so than...

Don't forget that at this stage,we don't know if he has been made redundant or he has resigned. Either way,it is sad to see him leave

I don't know Mick, I've never needed to call on him for any help. But I know several people who speak highly of him.

It could well be he's had enough, stuck his hand up and is going before United decide who fills whichever role.

If that is the case, I hope he has some money in his pocket and gets to do what he wants in his next job. Hopefully it won't have tarnished his love for the football side of things.

I know from my own experience it's not always a bad thing.

Good luck

WTF this is unbelievable news to let people like Mick go is sheer madness, today SUFC have sunk to a new low.
Mick was always ready to help anyone with any problem and always went the extra little bit that turned excellent customer service to the sort were people said WOW. It truly is a black day to lose people of his calibre. A top bloke who will not be replaced.
I always laugh when I remember Mick taking Brian Deane to an Iron Maiden concert ........................... anything to get in the VIP boxes for nowt I reckon :D .......... only trouble with Maiden is they are W Ham fans. ;)

All the best Mick and good luck in the future.

I am really sorry to see Rooks go, he always cheerfully says "hello" to me whenever I see him in the Pools Office or in the car park and often asks how I am. He will be sorely missed!

All the best for the future, Mick

What a lovely tweet from a Blades Legend

I remember him from when I was a 50/50 ticket seller as a young lad 15-20 years ago. He always had time to talk to you and generally make you feel welcome. A top bloke.

People like Rooks are such an integral part of the club, they should never leave. I've known Mick a long time and he always stops for a chat, no matter how busy. A top man.
Sad sad day.
Cheers Rooks
