There is indeed, a bid from Leeds was turned down.

However don't let me stand in the way of you rubbishing an ex-Blade with nearly 400 appearances for United over 12 years. :)

No bids were ever turned down. You're making that up. Even Ol' Big Nose said he'd drive him to any club that made a decent offer.

No need. I saw him play. He was dreadful. A non-footballing shadow-chasing, talentless ragamuffin. The sort you S2 hoofers convert into legends and pretend Frank Lampard even knew his name. It's embarrassing.

The reality is that decent midfielders ran rings around him.

I'll take the advice of the self appointed sage on here, and listen to what the professionals who played with him and against him told me, rather than the knownowts on here ;)

I'm all for playing football rather than hoof ball but I would rather have had Monty in the side than the over rated Kevin McDonald any day of the week.

And I'm sure Chris Wilder is of the same opinion.

List his qualities without saying "tried hard" or "got stuck in" more than once... Try to keep a straight face.

He won the home play off leg against Preston single handed in 2009 by sheer drive and determination. He was awesome that night and won every single tackle.

At Wembley he was the only player from the front six to turn up and him and the defence/keeper stopped us getting thrashed by a crap Burnley side.

He could win a tackle and invariably did. With a decent ball player close to him, he was a very effective player in a team that has to fight for the ball.

Go on, post the traffic cone again just to show how much you know, oh great one!

Which literally nobody has done. Still, its probably easier to argue against things you've made up yourself rather than against things people have actually said.

Good withering response.

Looking at your avatar, do you prefer to be known as 'WalthamstowBlad' or 'e'?

Just remind me who the skilful Burnley midfielder went past as though he was not there, immediately prior to the goal. I've seen the same time after time after time in every league he played in. Good footballers would grin from ear to ear at the prospect of facing our hero.

I remember him in Cup games and in the Premier keeping much better players quiet by sticking to them like glue. He was no Gerrard, but he could be an effective stopper.

I said he 'won every tackle' against Preston, but not necessarily at Wembley.

Maybe you should heed your own advice and actually read what I wrote first?

Funny how two of the UKs most talented midfielders over the past couple of decades also had him as a regular starter.

and to be honest, even that was handled in such a way that I literally felt sorry for him rather than the great moment of joy it should have been.

Didn't we even try to solve it by offering a position as DOF, so we didn't have to offically sack him?

I can imagine him now, large leather desk chair and a fine spirits cabinet.

Yeah the same game Gary Speed was made to look past it and ordinary if memory serves me right.

You're so full of it even colonic irrigation would be a waste of money.

Join the line. I'll deal with you later.

Sometimes this is a chore rather than a pleasure.

Ah....so you don't understand what a critique is intended to do? As a player, well he wouldn't get close to our current crop.

Well done 5 posts out of 5 rubbishing Montgomery.

All on a thread simply drawing attention to a Sheffield United video welcoming back a former player........

Critique.......A detailed analysis or evaluation....

Maybe it's you who doesn't understand. ;)

You win, hope you feel so much better UTB!

My sincere apologies for being privy to information that hasn't first been run past your good self. :)

Would that be Wade Elliot?

Monty always gave his best and will always get a round of applause from me when he returns to the lane, but my gosh he was an awful footballer.

He was a superb destroyer

Indeed. He destroyed nearly every attempt made to keep possession of the ball or for us to put a move together. Lovely bloke, lots of effort, three left feet.

He stayed too long. When he struggled to do the things he was good at then he should have gone. Then there was that game at right back.........

Good servant though, doesn't deserve so much vitriol.

And I'm sure Chris Wilder is of the same opinion.

Then you didn't watch a single minute of us under Wilder last season.

Monty would fit into a Chris Wilder team like Willie Carson would fit into the Harlem Globetrotters.
