It's more likely that Donny and a certain striker will be in the play-offs than us - and highly likely they'll be above us come 5pm on Saturday.
The bigger picture for United is the commercial one. Carry on like we are and keep Blackwell to the end of the season with a season ticket deadline in April equals commercial suicide.

With the amount of non renewals about to happen, including mine at the moment. I can only see the deadline date being extended.

Shit even Speed is trotting out the excuses now

Sheffield United coach Gary Speed is convinced Kevin Blackwell is the right man to keep the Blades on course for the play-offs.

Blackwell is coming under mounting pressure after his side slipped to ninth in the Championship table with just one win in their last five league matches, but Speed cites a crippling injury list for United's indifferent season.

Speed said: "He has dealt with awkward situations at both Leeds and Luton, so he is better equipped than most to handle it all.

"Sam Ellis and I support him by offering differing opinions and insights that he might not have considered, but he is the manager who makes the final decisions.

"We are fully behind him and it's a great learning experience for me to see how those two experienced men handle it all."

Speed added: "I do think most fans do recognise how hard achieving team cohesion is when faced with as many injuries as we have and I have never known anything like it, either as a player or a coach."

I too am a Blades supporter, who supports the Manager whomever he is. (Bryan Robson was the ONLY exception).

My expectation was a top half finish, provided we finished above all other South Yorkshire sides.

I DIDN'T want us to get into the play-offs, but if we'd have been good enough, I would have accepted automatic promotion, but I didn't think the squad is strong enough.

I believe this season that we have had more than our fair share of injuries that haven't helped our cause, and I'll be happy to finish anywhere between 7th & 12th subject to the above criteria.

I just want to see some 'football' nowt more, nowt less. Just some actual passing and movement, not the throwback stuff I can't bear to watch.

Anyhow, i'm off to the game now - shoe-laces are relatively loosened already

You got your wish tonight then :)

It's not as simple as getting rid of Blackwell and Ellis
There is a fundamental problem at the club which I don't believe can be resolved by just sacking the managerBut........................................
When Blackwell moans and groans about loans, new debuts, injuries, thin squad etc
IT WAS BLACKWELL who was manager when:
At the start of the season:
He knew Paddy was out for the season yet did not sign a permanant keeper
He knew Naysmith and Geary were out on long term injuries yet he oversaw both Walker and Naughton sales to Spurs.
He also sold or let go free Hendrie, Carney, Webber, Cotterill, Kilgallon,
He let out on loan Haber, Sharp
He sold Bromby at the beginning of the season knowing he didn't have any CB cover
He bought in Reid, Little, France, Stewart, Taylor Estonian goalie all who he didn't trust to play or were simply not good enough.
He didn't know that Henderson and Morgan would get suspended as much (Check their past records)
He bought in Ched Evans for £3million according to Mr McCabe and then saw his value drop to £750k when he appeared not to be the player everyone thought he was.
Meanwhile Billy has scored 15 goals for Donny this season who are a point behind us and our top scorer has managed 11
Something fundamentally wrong at the club which is not all of Blackwells doing but the above evidence suggests he should not be in a job!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Because of appeals I don't think Paddy's case was finalised until very late in the day.
I doubt if KB had any say in the sale of the two Kyles, or Kilgallon. Naysmith was expected to be back after Christmas.
I think most fans were delighted to see Hendrie, Carney and Webber go, just as they were delighted when KB signed Evans. Many also felt that Sharp couldn't cut it in this league.
When he signed Cresswell most fans thought he would be a disaster.
I see you haven't mentioned Jamie Ward...

I didn't mention Jamie Ward as he was signed last season and yes Cresswell has surprised me as I thought it was a complete disaster.
Some of the above is hindsight but some is purely bad practice.
He knew we were desperately thin on the ground with bodies but yet he sold Bromby, not the best in the world but reasonable cover
Yes I didn't think that Sharp could cut it at this level and yes I thought Ched Evans, an international player could but perhaps that is down to the manager and tactics!
Little, Reid, France have been drawing wages, so has Bennett, yet all deemed not good enough to cover for injuries!

umm not really mate.. some of us were screaming about this on deadline day..it was a no brainer.

welcome back lou .. heh

Intresting whether I am a Blackwell lover in the eyes of others. I certainly don't think the guy is an exceptional manager but neither do I think he deserves anything like the level of crap thrown at him. I still think we can do it. It only needs a couple of slips elsewhere and while there are 9 games left its well within our grasp/capability. Previous runs this season have shown that if we get a string of results together we can get the points on the board. We have been there or there abouts most of the season so why not us?

Now why don't I subscribe to the "sack him" calls? Because I don't blame Blackwell that all his best players have been sold from under his feet. I don't blame Blackwell that he has to put up with loanees and second rate dog balls for players because our wage structure allows us to spend two bob and a goat per week on a player.

Killer, Both Kyles, BT and a cast of others all gone. Naysmith injured, Paddy out for being stupid. None of these were down to Blackwell. Walker being recalled from loan. Not down to Blackwell.

Sure, he is like mini Warnock with his shit excuses and he really gets on my tits sometimes but that squad has been raped by injury/McCabe.

On one hand the guy deserves credit for keeping us closer to the Play Offs than relegation but on the other he deserves a kick in the swingers for making us so damned boring to watch.

But if you scream about it long enough you will be proved right in the end. Every manager loses his job or buys crap at some point. I wonder if Man United fans prattle on about Veron or the cast of crap players Fergie has forked out for?

I suppose it just depends on whether your glass is half empty or half full.

You are asking the wrong question. The question is who should replace him? When you have a shortlist of 3 you wait until one becomes available and then take action.
