The next time you open your trap, please expressly state that you don't, in fact, speak on my behalf.

Just a "I purport to speak for all United fans... Except Linz who thinks I should shut up" would do.

Ta in advance.

EDIT: I'd consider every like as a "count me out" too.

Heard him talking to Paul Walker on Radio Sheffield this morning and..... Jesus :(

As a person of standing in a supporters club, he should have made it clear the views are his and his alone and he has no right to claim to speak for other Blades fans.
Genuinely embarrassing and somewhat appalling.

All this without mentioning the fact he claimed Ched "Owed the fans" on several occasions. The man owes me fuck all.

EDIT: People saying that a "majority" want him back have no right to say so. Unless they've genuinely asked most fans, they're just using a word to support their argument and their views.

He is the secretary of the Kiveton branch. He isn't the head of the Supporters' Club, as has been stated.

It would be useful for the actual head of the SC to make a statement clarifying issues.

He was on Radio 4 last night, being interviewed along with Jean Hatchet. He was limited and not capable of presenting a sustained, coherent argument, thus he was second best at every question asked. And again, he acted as if he represented all United fans.

01:09:00..just after the Bee gee's...listening now...

"Footballers are 'role models' after all.."

think it's been covered on here mostly...

Seems to be all about money and celebrity for the 'anti-ched' pundit...it would be ok if Ched were poor and not fairly high profile...

she see's a 'convicted rapist' being celebrated (if he came back and scored a goal)...not a footballer...

...millions cheering him on on the telly apparently... :D

think 'Richard' might have been a stooge!..with his 'he's been a naughty boy' comment...

Alan Smith now.

..or is it Ken from John Shuttleworth..?

Nice from the radio 2 guy....'football fans can be pretty vile to people..say about the colour of someone's skin'...

'Alan' reckons he'd be welcomed back..didn't say much more...dun't know nowt, not heard owt..!

Norma from Enfiield reckons Ched's different because he's in the public eye..'other people' can 'just go away'!?!?!?!?! Don't let him back in 'the public eye'..he has to go behind a screen and be monitored!?!?!?!?

..and thats about it...suppose they've got to fill the time with something..it'll be Cliff tomorrow..or will it?

Linz, you will be taking this up at the next get together I take it? If ever anyone needed an illustration of why the official SC is ignored by the ast majority of fans...........

Fwiw, I have no issue whatsoever with any views Big Al holds, but my fruit bowl has about the same mandate to speak on behalf of 20 odd thousand people.

Unfortunately, with the club intent on responding to these stories with silence every time they pop up, the media will go to any incoherent idiot for a view to fill the void. Wouldn't surprise me if he was the 'unnamed club source' that gave the "royal approval" quote back in April.

I will certainly mention it from a personal point of view. If anyone else wants to log their complaint, feel free.

He can hold whatever views he wants - but he has no right to speak for me.

Do we have any contact info for the SC and also the Kiverton branch?
I'd like to log a few points of my own about how the bloke representing me has fallen way short of what of expect. Presumably as he's speaking for me across the national media I can put forward a motion to remove his ass from office should I feel I've be misrepresented.

If he can represent all of us without our permission can I please ask should your paths ever cross please kick him in the balls.
If he complains please explain that you were simply representing the wishes of the SC - FlatBob division.

Ta

Pete Whitney has stepped down as Chair. Trevor Payling has replaced him.

Who elected this guy to be the voice of Unitedites? Annoys me that the media have clearly selected someone who best suits their narrative without even mentioning the division amongst the fan base.

Who elected this guy to be the voice of Unitedites?

I think he elected himself as the only person contacted by the media lacking the wisdom to decline their offer of an interview with a polite "no comment".

As I said earlier, anyone with any sense wouldn't have gone anywhere near it.

Ah yes I am sure a woman who hates men and the transgendered community (going on what she says on twitter) provided a well balanced view.

Clearly they have not read this forum much if they think most Blades would welcome Evans back.

I wish everyone would stop speaking for everyone. Whatever happens, there is no winner. Has anyone spoke to the victim and see if she has a problem with him playing again?

Josh Brent killed a Dallas Cowboys teammate in a car crash, driving over 100mph while both drunk. The victims mum forgave Brent, so who are we to tell her how to deal with it.

This case has nothing to do with either this woman or Alan Smith and their opinion is not required.

As I said in the shoutbox earlier, if only we had an articulate spokesperson with vast experience of speaking in public and an incisive and quick-witted mind. Someone well accustomed to arguing vital issues at a high level and well able to withstand the "onslaught" of hack reporters. Even better if he or she had some legal training.

No, I don't suppose there is anyone with those qualities around. John Smith will have to do.

Fixed ;)

Lost me at quick-witted.

Trevor declined to comment to the media

Pete made a statement last March/April.

No idea who Alan Smith is, I thought he was 1 of the head honchos at Harthill but might not be.

Can't we start a poll on here ?
We seem to have a good general cross section of views .of all ages and backgrounds .
Lets see what S24SU comes up with now, although,a lot of what of what has been brought up by the BBC has been around for months now,on various sites.
One question though, what would those voting 'no',to him returning to football ,have Ched Evans do for a living after release?

what ever he wants to do, but as someone said on a different post, his priority should be to clear his name and disappearing for a while could be the best thing for him

Thats a different view on things Kopped, all I was saying was that people on the radio, are purporting to represent the majority of Blades fans, when this clearly isn't true.
If we had a poll on here, which i personally think is a sensible forum(ish),most of the time ,we would have a better idea of what real blades fans think .Anyway, who can actually start a poll ?

I listened to the interview on Radio 5Live last night and couldn't believe what I was hearing. The bloke was like a rabbit in headlights in attempting to justify why Evans should return and wipe up the mess he'd left two and a half years ago. As the interview progresses, it's apparent that what he's saying is in fact his own view of things, however, he throws in the defence/reasoning that these are the thoughts of Sheffield United fans.
It was embarrassing and sounded as if they were interviewing someone stuck in a 1970's time warp. The football journalist, Henry Winter summed it up perfectly at the end of the piece by expressing his dismay that a football fan should blame the legal justice system for a football team missing out on promotion.
Alan Smith was punching above his weight by agreeing to go on national radio and talk about the Evans situation. His comments were foolish and ill-judged and he shouldn't be let loose near a radio or tv microphone again when he's asked to comment about any matter concerning SUFC.
