I suppose I'm referring to almost everyone here - as most folks seem to do it at away games. I do it myself too, but ONLY because the folks in front of me are stood up and I wouldn't be able to see the game if not.

Yesterday at lovely sunny Oldham was a case in point. Being near to the front, the first few rows were all seated, so I was seated, and enjoying the view. But to my right there were some others who did not want to sit down, even though the folks in front of them were sat down. They wanted to stand.

Behind them, a family with a little girl, of maybe 7 or 8 years old, who couldn't see a thing because they were standing up. And when this guy asked them to be seated so she could see - they refused. I was a bit of distance away but it all seemed to be getting a bit heated at one point. There was no need whatsoever for these guys to be standing, and I wonder if it had been them with their child's view obstructed by someone in front, whether they might have seen things differently? But the point is, they wouldn't budge. "We're only doing what everyone else is doing" was this guy's response.

What a nice person eh?

I think it's a pity the stewards and police don't crack down more on this standing in seated areas. It only needs them to focus on those at the front to sit down, then everyone else has no reason to be standing. There are some folks around you who can't see the game properly if you stand and there are others who perhaps aren't capable of standing throughout 90 minutes - especially on a hot day like yesterday.

To me this makes a strong case for bringing back standing areas. Then those who want to stand can do so - and those who have paid to sit down can sit down. I also think it would be safer this way in the event of an emergency, than having standing fans in seated areas.

But, in the meantime...if your really MUST stand - could you show a bit of human compassion for those around you who may be disadvantaged by it possibly?

There isn't a single argument for not allowing standing areas that can't be blown apart in seconds.

But idiocy prevails in English football. Which is why it's been overtaken by most other major footballing countries in every sense of the word.

I stand wherever because 9 times out of 10 you get fuck all leg room and I don't fancy my knees digging into plastic for 45 minutes at a time.

There are lots of reasons why we like to stand up, but no reason at all why we shouldn't sit down again when politely asked to do so by the people behind us whose children can't see. It's called showing consideration.

Another bugbear that gets me is the kind of ignorant bastard who arrives late/comes early and is too surly to ask you to stand up so he can get past, but just silently stares at you instead because he's too hard to actually communicate.

Of course, it is possible to sing while sat down. But in reality it just doesn't happen.

Going to an away match where almost everybody is sat down is incredibly deflating.

Our seats were down at the front to the right in the sun ,fucking awful view ,we just upped and sat/stood in the overflow area at the side. Just use a bit of nous sometimes.

The main issue is how the tickets are sold. You ought to be able to specify being at the back (standing) or front (sitting down).

I'm usually happy enough to stand, but more than aware now that there are very valid reasons for having to sit down sometimes!

I'd rather just stay at home if I couldn't stand up at an away game. Being on row P of the Kop, it's the only time I can stand up and chant. I'd have refused to sit down too. While I understand that it's a bit rubbish for some who struggle with seeing etc., that's what away games are all about.

Don't move until the cunt speaks. They get it eventually.

It's annoying for me at times to be honest. I generally can't stand being around people, which inevitably makes being an actively attending football fan rather difficult.
I'm moving season ticket seats for the third time next season to get away from irritating pricks.

It would help if away tickets weren't automatically allocated so people who wanted to sit could choose near front. I can't stand for the duration due to health issues so often just have to catch glimpses through the standing people in front.

I tried this tactic earlier this season when a bloke decided to leave 5 minutes before the end and did the "stand & stare" tactic. I told him that if he wanted me to move he could ask me nicely. So he just stood there wi' t'face on.

In the end the guy sat next to me broke the ice by calling him a prick.

Great point that ,its a lottery when you get to a ground ,yesterday was so deflating when we got our seats ,and we got them early which was even more annoying. You can choose our seats at concerts ,why cant you do it at football. Get a petition raised Linz

Yep. Standing's not meant to be allowed but ticket sales should account for the reality that it will happen.

Too right there are, you just ask my ankle ;)

I accept that people stand at away games, but I have done my knee in and can't stand for very long. Yesterday I managed to sit at the end of the row, so could see through the gap most of the pitch, until a load of Blades decided to join their mates and completely blocked the aisle and my view. Stewards were walking up and down and never said a word. I would have thought it was a safety issue as much as anything.

snap.

I had an aisle seat but had a group of loud mouthed middle aged men stood in the aisle that hadn't even tried to find their seats.

One asked "where are we sat" and got a response of "no idea, we'll just stand here"

My left ankle got bloody sore bearing the weight that my right can't take for 2 hrs

Yep, looking forward to the Northampton game, but not the standing bit. Hey ho, it is what it is. I was in row M just to the right of the goal, possibly same group?

You're about ten miles down the fucking Kop. There's barely anyone around you :D:D

Streetwise Sports corner beckons...

similar area, row R but possibly a bit further to the right.

And my wife is looking forward to shopping in Birmingham with the train tickets I had the foresight to buy to take my son and myself to Northampton ;)

There's a fat old gobby bastard behind me with his fat gobby mates who spend the entire match slagging off every single move the team makes. Plus the annoying prick who arrives 15 minutes late every game with a tray of chips and curry and stinks the place out.

I'm not saying I condone mass-murder.....but I get it ;)

Couple of my mates got tickets in the old stand to theleft of the pitch from our end. I'm on crutches with a broken leg and swapped my ticket with one of them because I thought it would be standing and I knew I couldn'tdo that for a full game. Glad I did.

They could've asked to just swap places with those in front of them so that they could sit down? I will always stand at an away game regardless of who is behind me. It's football. If they want to swap places then that's fine by me, but if not then don't complain
