Last night at the Lane was good and will be worth a listen on RS on Friday night.
Wish I'd been to one of those after dinner things with Curtis Woodhouse. Fast becoming one of my top five heroes instead of just in the pack.

Aye was a decent one, both of the nights with Curtis and Bradders were enjoyable and expanded on some of the stories they touched on :)

There were some dodgy fellas in the crowd though, bumped into some very shifty individuals :D

Too right. Respect to the old boy who'd been watching United 87 years. Insane yes, but still top man

I'll do some asking about. Where in Dinno?

I was really looking forward to hearing this, apparently there is a link on the football heaven website, but I haven't looked yet.

they aired the chesterfield version last night, so why not for the blades.... nothing ever surprises me anymore from radio pork talk!

I was looking forward to it being aired
Looks like theyve bowed to their paymasters the Massive and bottled it. Pig fans been moaning about it all week they are all a bit special and dont realise in 3 years time they will be able to have their 150 special, unless they think Mandaric is going to sell them down the river and they do a Portsmuff

I've listened to the Radio Sheffield coverage on audioboo from the forum on Tuesday, are there any other stories / views opinions from people who were there on the night that we'd be interested in hearing about that perhaps couldn't make it to radio?

Not listened back yet, but when I've had chance I'll let you know what they left out, assuming someone else doesn't beat me to it :)

There we're a few of us there but only 1 or 2 showed themselves. I enjoyed it and if my senile brain remembers owt Foxy s doesn't i will try to gap fill.

I haven't listened yet but what was this interesting comment made about Weir ?

Mitch Ward said the moment Weir was appointed he knew he wouldn't be a success - not really part of the dressing room at Everton.

Ward's mentioned in Weir's autobiography in not exactly favourable terms - he was one of a number of people in a large squad with little hope of getting in the first team, and Weir suggested that those players created a bad atmosphere in the club.

Both might be right tbh.

Page said Weir tried to change too much too soon - and that Morgs deserves credit for his time as caretaker before Clough came in.

Until I listened to the recording I hadn't realised that we were the first winners of The Charity Shield.

Lets go and get it back lads.

Be nice to be the first and last name on it during our 125 celebrations. [assumes March-March, not season to season]

Is this actually true ? I've never heard this and according to Wikipedia (I know I know) Man U were the first winners in 1908. In fact we've never contested it. As is usual with all these things, the rules changed for a few years, so in 1925 it wasn't between the league winner and the cup winner.

Just wondering what this game was.

I'm sure it was said in the introduction by John Garrett?

According to this link http://www.rsssf.com/tablese/engsupcuphist.html the Charity Shield was introduced in 1908 to replace the Sheriff of London (Dewar) Shield. United competed in the first Dewar Shield in 1898 against Corinthians, and drew 0-0, and 1-1 in the replay. United refused to play extra time as they disagreed with some of the referee's decisions (dodgy refs in those days too?)

It doesn't say who were actually awarded the trophy, or whether it was shared (as it was the following season) so it can't really be said that we were the first winners of the Charity Shield or its precursor, but we may have shared it.

Sheriff of London Shield says it all. I bet Mike Dean reffed that one as well. Before West Ham, I assume Corinthians were the darlings of the FA.

It is amazing what you learn though.

Also first club to win the best of Great Britain when they beat Celtic

It was some trophy the Shield.

Both clubs shared it for 6 months (Corinthians and United)

I think Watford have got it in their musuem :)
