The manager has made it clear we are signing a striker (not necessarily Brewster). There was nothing in the forum to say that wouldn’t happen. I don’t get some of the negativity. I thought it was positive and the club is in good hands.

It all seems positive and despite what others have said the club financing the purchase of assess rather than the owner pouring paying it all out of his own pocket is hardly a sign of a Glazer style nightmare.

A lot of our fans get angry at PA for simply not being wealthy enough, either that or they think he can afford to splash more than he’s letting on and is simply being a miser.

i have to say while it sounded ok, i'm not optimistic we'll be competing with the top 15 teams anytime soon, we are in dangerous territory of having to rely on wilder to keep pulling rabbits out of hats and I'm not convinced that will always happen.
The £50m + spent on Berge, McBurnie, and Ramsdale is not exactly pulling rabbits out of hats.

And why should be be competing with the top 15? Last year was a complete one off we need to concentrate on trying to stay in the division!

The transcript fails to capture the lightheartedness and banged between the board members particularly when talking about transfer finances. It doesn't at all sound as bad as it's typed.
Some people just like having a moan. It’s only because we lost a game. Win tomorrow and all will be reight until we lose again.

Shh, everything is awful and we're down to our last 20p. Hoping to get a striker in by selling the frozen chips that have been sat at the caterers since Norwich to a school for £400. Might be able to get Donaldson back.

Just requires us to be more thrifty on deals. Getting Bogle and Lowe for less than what Villa paid for Cash. Grabbing Berge early before bigger clubs came in for him in the summer.

If there is one thing Wilder has shown is that he has the skills to actually get decent players for next to fuck all.

I agree survival this year will be a massive achievement, but I'd like to think that going forward flirting with the bottom 5 isn't something we should be setting our sights on

You could see PA desperately trying not to corpse as he was trying to get the line out about being over budget. It was almost a "s-s-s-stop it Aggers.." moment.

As a matter of interest, and I know this has been done to death, but if the ground is paid for out of the club's money it's still the property of PA, isn't it? But he'll have not actually paid for it? (albeit he'll have put a lot of other money in).

What they should have done is sat there with shit-eating grins boasting about how minted we are, so every time we go into negotiations for a player they’ll know that we can afford to have a bit more squeezed out of us.

Exactly, it is much better to tell everyone we have a 100million burning a hole in our pocket. Agents and clubs would never take notice of that being broadcast live all over youtube.

Whats negative about what I said? Just pointing out we won't be spending 25m on Brewster like a lot seem to be claiming

That's right. By way of an example, if I own a company and that company buys a property it comes from the company coffers. As company owner, I wouldn't buy it from my own money.

Thanks. So, for example, if the Prince wanted to sell the club, he'd get another 50 million for it, assuming anyone would pay that much? For something he hasn't paid for and yet owns?

Pretty sure he's said/it's been clarified the ground will be owned by the club.

"Reunite the club with the property" or something.

Chuckled at the story about Wilder and the transfer budget. Sounds like they have a good relationship.

Are we the one club in the world that pays transfer fees in one lump sum then?
In that case what proportions of the fees agreed last summer need to be paid this summer?

I agree with what you’re saying but without seeing specific details of the deal all we can do is speculate from the information in the media.
RM true, a lot for us...but not a lot by Premiership standards. However we now know where we stand, the Prince has clearly put in as much as he can. Any talk about signing Brewster look well wide of the mark, it has to be a loan
If you compare our spending to spending by premier league clubs that are similar to us, then we are spending around the same amount on fees as Palace, Burnley, Newcastle, Brighton etc.

Clubs like West Ham who over spend across 1 or 2 years are now having to cut their cloth this year. I suspect the same will happen with Villa next season (FFP is still a thing in the PL).

You may be right with not having the money for Brewster or maybe we will push the boat out because a good opportunity has arisen (just like Berge). Time will tell I guess.

"Reunite the club with the property" or something.

But doesn't he own the club? So if the ground is owned by the club, it's owned by the company he controls?

Who knows what proportions - but the post I was replying to implied that the entire Berge £20m came out of the current transfer budget.
