Given the speed at which football can move, and Kev's historical willingness to sell at too low a price simply to soften the coffers, I'd have thought he'd have made time to cast an eye over the latest talent we've produced. According to some, Brooks may not be here long (not my take you understand) so it would be in Kev's and the Blade's best interest if he at least had an idea of what the lad might be worth

But I don't believe he makes the decisions like that.
If an offer came in for Brooks he would be discussing this with the transfer committee but first and foremost would be Wilder. They would be influential in any negotiations and Wilder in particular quite vocal on what the lad might be worth in the long term.

As I see it, the benefit from him seeing the kid play, would be for him to shine and do what we all hope he's capable of doing, and Kev seeing that and enjoy it.....bring back some of the memories he will have of players like Currie and hope he gets some attachment as a fan, like we all do, and starts to make decisions like a fan rather than the businessman.

Lets be right. Nothing has changed with regards selling players. Every player has a price where the club caves in. And nothing will be different here with Brooks. I would just like to enjoy him playing for a bit longer than we did Walker before he moves on.

The issue is less that we need our own equivalent of Tuna Man, its that Kev needs to step away from decision-making. Whatever his previous success in business (and I must say I'm not that impressed by someone making money from property in a country where that's the equivalent of gambling on an All Blacks rugby victory), his track record of making bad decisions in relation to running a football club is impressive. The fact that he's got lucky with the current management shouldn't fool anyone into thinking otherwise, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

When you run a business it is common to break that business down into a set of Cost Centres. Each of those Centres runs their own set of accounts - P&L (profit and loss) and is effectively run as an independent business.

I ran Cost Centres with my own P&L accounts for years, and was rewarded for making and declaring profits, which helped to subsidise some of the loss-making parts of the business.

Hence, it is perfectly common to declare that one of your P&L Cost Centres made a profit.

Our Academy creates funds and raises our reputation as a successful professionally run club. Whether recruits go through to our team or raise funds and move on, they add to our reputation which helps us attract and keep the players that we want.

The combination of our Manager and our Academy is our way to a bright future. Long may they both continue.

At last The Magic is Back

Yes I know. I was using "division" for cost centre and responding to a post which didn't seem to understand this concept. I think I'll get back in the garden. At least the plants understand me!

Nothing has changed with regards selling players.

I would have thought the Kyle money would have protected any youngster from being sold

It is an unexpected windfall, not budgeted for, free money you might say

Use it to protect the youngsters .. so Sheffield United can grow, not Spurs or Everton

I'm suprised Kev hasn't bought Brooks for a £1 ... just ya know, to take the risk and weight off the Club

Of course returning him to the Club when things look a little brighter

Afterall, he could afford the £1 ........... he could take it out of the Kyle money

..and so it goes on.

Enjoy the game today, if you are aware of our Championship opener in front of a bumper crowd of Blades and can bear the misery of attending.

Do let us have another item from the agenda post-match though won't you? Let's hope young Brooks has a stormer then we can really get angry, eh?

Unbelievable, sensible folk may think. Not in S2...

Bitter about something?

Let me guess....the Freehold? No?.....oh yes...The Hotel then?

Such a shame nobody else came along with £100m to save him the bother. Because that's probably close to the figure of debt this club would be in if not. And before you suggest that it's worked out well or was his plan all along.....give your head a wobble

How? Make the under 18s the highest paid players in the club? Stop TV-cash rich Everton or Spurs offering the lads (yes improperly - it happens) a lottery level fortune?

Does the agenda exclude intelligent thought? Get real.

I was commenting on the quality of his decision-making, not the depth of his pockets.
You don't like Wilder, or the ticket pricing which has seen our average gates sky rocket over his tenure. What about the ground, which despite my wish for more, is pretty special?
What about his unquestionable year on year propping up of the club?
Is it really his decision making, or just that you expect him to be infallible, while you have the benefit of hindsight which you use to judge him?

There it is again, if it wern't for Kev the Club would owe £100 million .......... pffft

Give yer head a wobble

Which bad decisions ? Clough and Adkins were universally approved decision when taken ,everything is easy with hindsight. Many didn't want Wilder.

Must admit that surprises me Fred. Given everything that has surrounded Brooks, I'd have thought that our co-owner would be interested to see the latest young Blade to emerge from the academy. Anything else worth reporting?

Don't need to see what yer selling, as long as Kev has an ebay account he'll be reight.

And that's it in a nutshell, some players may be worth Y, but sometimes we accept far less simply because of our perceived lack of negotiating acumen, thus what should have been a decent bit of business becomes just enough to cover the costs of running the academy for 12 months. We haven't been the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to valuing our players, so currently I hope that whoever's in charge of transfer deals has a better skill set than previous incumbents.

It didn't need the benefit of hindsight to know handing our parachute payments to Bryan 'Shaky Hands' Robson was a bad idea. It just took some basic common sense and sufficient sense of smell to detect alcohol on a man's breath.

Come on, think about it.

I assume you mean the latest Kyle money. If so, then what it might do is reduce the need for the club to sell for a lower fee than we might like. In other words, where £2m might have been tempting to prop up the club, it now means we can look at turning that down. However, if £5m or more starts to come in, Wilder might start thinking that he could get the striker in that would take us to the next level NOW. Like he did with DCL, Ramsdale last season.

It's not as simple as black and white, and despite what the peddlers of doom like yourself profess, it's always carefully considered what is best for the short and long term.

Some people need to start taking a more reasoned and balanced approach to their thinking.

So...anybody go and find owt out?

Incomings? Outgoings? New kop? Electronic advertising?

Anything?

Oh! You forgot the fax machine joke

Zzzzzzzzzz

Wtf? First game today back in the Championship and the most anticipated game for 6 years and up pops the negative club selling - club bashing - Kev bashing agendas!

At least wait until 5pm after we've been stuffed 0-5 by Brentford will yer ffs

Why do people even bother with this anti supporting shite?

Get behind the team and club for a change !!!

Jesus wept.....it's been done to death. We all know the reasoning behind that appointment and I can't be arsed to explain it again, 10 years after it fucking happened!
But what's funny, is KM is slated for decisions and demanded to fuck off....then he leaves the club to others to run, and is blamed again for that....he's damned whatever he does.
If he sold up tomorrow like some on here want, and it went tits up he would be blamed again.

Put it this way. I used to be very sceptical, but after a chat with an ex chief exec I'm less so. Yes he made mistakes on football decisions but without him we would have been fucked. He's well over £100m of his own money out of pocket, even taking in the assets he has "bought", and that's down to his football decisions.
But hey...there's no bigger blade than the fan who has a season ticket!

No one has to get real. It's a forum. Being somewhat clueless - and boringly repetitive with it - is part of the charm.

Are you for fucking real?
Not impressed by a self made man, doing what he has in business?? It's that easy, then I look forward to you bringing your millions to the party.
He stepped away from decision making numerous times, it made no fucking difference.

And we need our own tuna man.....for fucks sake. How about our own Russian oil man....that's now in prison. Or our own Hong Kong billionaire...that's in prison or on the run...I've lost track on that particular criminal.
Or how about our own Egyptian owner....that tried to change the name of the club, chucked his teddy out and has now stripped the club of money to get his money back now he can't sell, and alienated half the fan base with a crappy price structure.
Would you be happy paying £48 to watch United? His name all over th shirts, stands....I despair.

Can I be the first to say this....and it's not usually my style. But go fucking support them then.

Personally I would've spent more than we currently have but due to last season I have no objection to trusting in Wilder and his transfer approach.

Sadly one season of success has to be tempered by the memories of past failures, as if certain posters are the only ones aware, in this case Robson wasting millions, when the fact is we all know, but in most cases, it still smarts a bit, whilst for others it's a flashing neon badge of honour worn proudly on the lapel.
