Q. Following the excitement of the Youth Cup run, what are our chances of keeping the youngsters?
DW: Up to now, we have received just 1 bid for any of the players so far. That is the derisory offer we received and rejected from Fulham.
We will keep hold of the players that do not want to go.
Q. You are in control of this from the clubs point of view?
DW: No, I don't think I am. Clearly the club has issues with certain agents and the way they conduct their business. The Jorden Slew problem is down to his Agent. We have spoken to the player and told him that we want him to lead our line next season. He is entitled to his own opinion and who he takes council from. If his Agent....
Q. His Agent is Rankine?
JG: Yes, it is.
DW:.... could get him a deal at other clubs which we couldn't match even if we wanted to, then the player could easily be weight in the Agents favour.
With Jorden Slew, we have 3 options.
1. Play him next season and hope he signs a new deal with us to keep him here.
2. Cash in hoping to get as much money as we can now, maybe with a whole range of add-ons and loan back, which is an option. As his agent may take him abroad, say to Scotland for arguments sake, for nothing at the end of the season. We don't get a fee, the player gets his money and the Agent also gets paid. This has been brought to our attention from his Agent.
3. If he takes the hump, we throw him into the reserves and leave him there to see out his contract, but this would highlight un-professionalism to other clubs and could end his career, something I'm sure he won't do.
Q. Do we have to sell before we buy?
DW: No, I think we have money in the pot, we need to find out where we need to strengthen first. We'll only really find that out when players return from their holidays and we can see where we will be from their. Players will leave and players will come in to replace them. Some players that leave will be fans favourites, but that's football.
Q. We've never really replaced players from years ago, for example, Michael Brown or any attacking midfielder has never been replaced, do you see this as a key area to strengthen?
DW: We will look at individual positions when the players return. There is always room for improvement on your current squad though so I will never rule anyone out.
Q. How do you set-up your teams as in a typical Danny Wilson line-up?
DW: I like wingers, quick pacy wingers who can beat a man to the byline and send decent crosses into the box. The width of the squad is what I like and if it's right we can't go far wrong. Of course, with everything in football good players cost money, so we'll see where we are when the players return.
Q. You say you like wingers, yet our friends from S6 are linked with a decent winger which us fans would love as a signing for here, Danny Green. Is he on your radar? and if not, why not?
DW: Danny Green is a decent talent but again it'll come down to finances. I don't know how much he's on at Dagenham or what Weds are offering him, or if they have offered him anything. All I can say to that really is watch this space.
Q. Have you made any enquiries of your own for players coming in?
DW: Players and Managers do keep in contact with each other every day. I've made some calls and I've had some calls, that's all I can comment on at this stage
Q. There's been mention of 1 of your old friends Peter Shirtliff coming to the club as your Assistant, can you comment on this?
DW: I believe Peter is happy where he is and this is news to me.....
Q. So he won't be coming?
DW:..... No he won't.
Q: Who do you have in mind?
DW: We are hoping to announce Frank Barlow in the next few days.
Q: In have a question for the Catering department: TEA! Why does it cost astronomical prices for things like a cup of Tea? I mean it's what 5p for the teabag and say 10p for some hot water, well sometimes hot. Why does it cost £1.80 for that?
DW(Commercial): We negotiated a 10 year deal with the current catering company Compass. We are only into 18 months of that contract and things are finally improving. The first guy involved is no longer with us as there wasn't any movement in improvement. The guy we have now is slowly reacting to concerns like yours.....
(Under-breath comments from around the room- Who negotiated that deal?)
DW(Comm):..... We will be looking at pricing over the next month along with other improvements being made around the stadium in regards of catering.
Q. I'm a shareholder, seaon ticket holder, Exec Club, ex-Biffa, Blades Revival etc, can you tell me why in these hard times my actual season ticket cost has doubled this season? Are the club trying to alienate fans with these costs?
DW(Comm): The club announced the costs of season tickets and haven't extended the date because that wouldhave kicked the fans have responded early, in good faith, in the teeth.
So what we have done is said there will be no Half Season Ticket because of last years fixture list having a huge impact on sales. There will be very few cheap games and no Flexi-tickets. Instead anyone who wants to buy a Season Ticket for whatever reason at Christmas can only buy an 18 month season ticket to cover them for the end of this season and the whole of next. This rewarding the Season Ticket holders who have renewed early.
RB: Can you talk to Danny Wood after Mr Wilson leaves as he can't stay for much longer? Fan agrees! (I don't know the out come of this.)
Q. Danny, Can you respond to the alleged rumour that you said that you despise heffield United and their fans?
DW: I will, I don't comment on other clubs whether they are past clubs or whether we are are against them. So I can say, I didn't say it! If anyone can prove otherwise, can they point it out to me because I'll be very interested in the source of the allegations.
Q. Do you have a weds tattoo on your left leg?
DW: No, I don't!
Q. If we do sell Jorden Slew, can we not get him back in on loan? I would much rather we had our own players and if a players sold they obviously don't want to play for us.
DW: We'll see how that transpires if or when he leaves. He's still our player.
Q. Our recent demise is mainly down to us using the loan market too much, or better words would be relying on it too much. Please can you tell us we aren't going down the route again? We had our entire back 4 made up of Loans for a few games last season which was awful to watch.
DW: The club has been desperately unlucky with injuries over the last 2 seasons but we will use the loan market as it was intended, 1 or 2 players to use on season loans and the rest are for emergencies only. We will research the players coming in first and make sure they are the right players for us. It won't be flash signings as has been made here over the last few years.
We are already short on numbers and are carrying a number of injuries into the next season, so you should expect a few loan signings to compensate them.
DW: I have a question for you: WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Mixed reaction from several fans: Debate:
- I want to see winning football!
- Oh god, lets not go down that route again please! The other season I was bored to tears!
- I want be entertained!
- but do you want to sacrifice winning for it?
- if it gets us away from the poor stuff from last season and the season before, then so be it.
- several voices over run until:
Spokesman: I think we want to see Attacking football, that if played right way should entertain and bring along winning football and a full rocking stadium.
DW departs with RB!
All other club officials stay around to talk to the rest of the fans.
Q's I heard and asked:
What is happening with Bassett?
C/O: No-one knows, it's something that will come out soon I'd have thought.
What is happening with next years programme?
C/O: We are making it more like a fanzine to attract a more readers. It'll contain stuff from Fans Forums, internet forums, more competitions, etc.
Others will come back to me over time, as I can't remember everything
