I don't think there's anyone who'll disagree that yesterday was an archetypal Blades performance of recent times - triumph over adversity and players who look like they want to die for the cause (and Chris Morgan getting sent off, but that's by the by
)
Now, we've had some Spurs fans up this week who visit conferences every now and again... and who just love to wind up the CF@W*. When we asked why exactly he was a Chelsea fan, coming from High Wycombe and now living in Chesterfield, he said he wanted to watch a successful club. "Glory hunter then?" we asked. He got mardies on and ran away.
When he did eventually come back, he'd had chance to think about it. He said he wanted to watch attractive football. The Spurs fans pissed themselves at the thought of the "attractive football" tag being given to Chelsea.
This got me thinking... what would I prefer to see? Attractive football played by multi-millionaires who baulk at being offered the measly sum of £50k a week wages? Players who feel it is perfectly acceptable to slag their manager in the press and not expect any comeback because they feel the team couldn't operate without them?
Or rough and passionate football... played by mostly English players who seemingly have some loyalty to their club and an affinity with the fans? Teams who aren't afraid of anyone and will give any team a run for their money.
Thinking back to the most exciting match I've seen and probably the best match a number of people have seen in recent years... the Forest Play-off Semi... it was no real feast of football. But the players... Blades especially, looked ready to lay down for the cause. None of this heads down business.
The point of this is... what would you prefer to see at Bramall Lane? BR tried to bring fancy stuff to the Lane, and with time, and a squad of his own players, it could have possibly worked. KB has reverted back to the "never say die" ethos of old with a team of old pros and youngsters with a point to prove. Whilst it's worked so far, could it really sustain a Premiership bid?
What do you think?
