Fall from grace

With the loaning out of Brayford it got me wondering, who else has fallen from hero status so quickly? This is not a "slag off Brayford" thread. I think it was right to let him go as he just seemed nowhere near the player we first saw. However, when he first joined on loan, he really lifted the club and seemed to have an incredible morale boosting effect on our club.

But who else has this happened with? I mainly remember players we had on loan that i really wanted but we never got, such as Matty Phillips.

Who else looked like superman at first then became distinctly average, or even shit either upon signing after a loan, or started off very brightly on a permanent basis but then diminished?

Hodges? Surprised you mentioned him. I know he could come across as a lazy bugger at times but when on form he was superb. Only lost his way in his final year but still showed flashes if brilliance. One of my favourite players of the last 25 years or so

Hodges was class when he signed, not the huge impact of the loan deal, but had a real level of class about him, when he could be arsed

He was definately fond of the pop. I may have rose coloured spectacles on when looking back at his career with us but I certainly remember more good things than bad

The one I remember was Alan Wright came on loan from Middlesbrough, for the 9 loan games he was brilliant and won everything for such a small fella. Then we signed him and was the worst left back I ever saw!

Hodges...??? The lad was a lazy fuka at times but the lad couldnt half play when he wanted too. He was the class lad alongside the main man (Deane) that gave us a chance in the top division. Appreciate we all have our opinions but i think we will just have to disagree on this one. I thought Hodgy Hodgy was a top lad and a top player for the Blades. Some of his passing when he was up for it was sublime. Always remember a game away at Palace (who had flogged him to us i think) and he was trying to prove a point to em. He was unplayable that day and ripped em a new one. Fond memories of him tbh.

Jon Harley. One of the finest players I had seen when we had him on loan, similar impact as a full back to Brayford really.

Then he came in his second spell and it was like when Billy's Boots mum used to chuck his grandad's boots to a charity shop and he had to play in a pair of Umbros.

Wayne Quinn - That first home game under Spackman with Quinn and Borbokis as wing backs is one of my favourite games.

He was great for ages, got injured, never the same and sold off to Newcastle.

Yep we certainly used to have real characters . Hodges flash of brilliance one minute , looked like he wasn't bothered the next .

Saw him fall over when taking a corner for Palace and arguing with the linesman about it .

Brayford was a enigma who liked the cult hero worship , but seems a lost soul , with no real backbone for league 1.

A lot of players mentioned in this thread , all could be brilliant , but could be nasty bastards at the same time . That what's missing at the Lane .
