Sheffield United
GARY Speed revealed he expects Sheffield United to challenge for promotion after watching them secure their first victory of the new npower Championship season.
A spectacular second-half goal from debutant Jean Calve proved enough to secure all three points against a resilient Preston North End who saw Keith Treacy hit the barduring the early exchanges.
But, having seen his team lift themselves off the foot of the table, Speed said: "When you are at a club like this then people are always going to expect you to contest the play-offs. I expect us to challenge for the play-offs.
"I count myself fortunate to be in charge of a club that's got that type of expectation around it.
"And I'm sure the players feel the same. If that's pressure then, as far as I'm concerned, bring it on."
United, who climb to 17th, were without captain Chris Morgan who strained a calf muscle during training on Thursday.
But Speed, celebrating the first win of his managerial career, expects the central defender to recover for next month's trip to Derby County.
"Morgs pulled-up during a session and the scan shows that he's got a slight tear," said Speed.
"But it doesn't appear to be anything too serious.
"We've got an international break coming-up and we're hoping it will clear-up by the time we're back in action.
"There was no point in risking Morgs and then losing him for five weeks."
well the mans got faith and ambition il give him that (pitty many of the fans havent) so whats ya verdict is he going for the impossible or do you think it could be managable target
