FA CUP - Wrexham away

I’m looking forward to it. Blades players made a good impression against Millwall, looking much more relaxed with the pressure of them, because the result didn’t really matter that much. They were able to play and perform better with little or no pressure on them.

The games before and after did not run quite so smoothly. Perhaps the squad is putting too much pressure on themselves, simply because the feel there is more at stake in league games.

I have a bit of a soft spot for Wrexham anyway. My late Grandfather and my father were both from a small mining community near there, until my grandfather moved the family to the Derbyshire coalfield before I was born.

If he had stayed put, I might have grownup as a wrexham supporter instead of being a blades fan. I still enjoy male voice choirs and Welsh Rugby Union. ;)
I enjoy the Yorkshire Hakka! lol

Anyone go to the Sherpa Vans Trophy in 89? Genuinely had no recollection of Vaughan Ryan, had to Google him, had him on loan for a few games.

I know I googled him. Couldn’t remember him at all though.
Saw him in the 1-1 draw away to Bristol Rovers at Bath in January 1989. He was the first to pick the ball up from the back of the net after Rovers scored their goal from a penalty. I was thinking that he looked professional and wanted to keep things going.

Good late win for them yesterday though obviously shipping 2 goals will have given them food for thought.

I think I am right in saying they have the best home league record in the National League, whereas we have the best away league record in the Championship.

Makes for an intriguing encounter and appears to have sold out both home and away within 24 hours.

Really looking forward to this. Interesting break from league action and interesting opponents due to not having played them for so long and the obvious media attention.

Also, being on Sunday, it's good that it affords some players 8 full days of rest whilst others will get 15 days before we are next league action.

Intrigued by what team we would pick. Do we stick with Bogle and Lowe or do we perhaps go with Basham and Osborn? Is this the game we finally get to give game time to Coulibaly? Who needs minutes up front? Jebbo continues? Does McBurnie need minutes? Does Ndiaye get rapped up in cotton wool? Billy has now started just one of the last three so does he get a go? As Hecky alluded, he doesn't necessarily have an outright best XI, more good options he can rotate.

I wonder if he'll rest Norwood. Maybe play Doyle there. I'd probably rest Ndiaye and play McAtee next to Sharp. It's probably worth looking at contingencies in case we lost either one of them. I'd probably rest Bogle for Sadchev as well.

We have time between games so it's a strong side for me with game winners on the bench (brought on early enough) if we need them. Don't want the embarrassment of losing to a National League side in front of a large tv audience.

Think we’ll be looking for further cup monies due to financial issues. Strong line up and bench.

Worry about the pitch impacting further on players carrying strains. Hope they don’t get much rain this week.

Looking forward to visiting again after many years.

yes think your right there i also think hecky will put a strongish team out may rest a couple but like you think theres money to be made this season in the cup especially if we draw fleetwood next round then were in the quarter final 🤭🤣🏆

I have mixed feelings about having a cup run rather than concentrating on promotion, but there's something to be said for keeping that winning mentality going and giving some fringe players game time.
We should beat Wrexham anyways, cup or not cup, plus with a confident Rovrum up next in the league let's keep that winning streak going!

Although Hecky demonstrated with the Millwall team that he wants to keep the run of good results going - he did in that game give some guys a starting berth whilst retaining a strong core. I expect Davies in the nets again, Bash, Ozzy, McAtee, McBurnie (60 mins) to feature from the off. Personally, I think we really need to see what we have in Coulibaly as to whether there is a player there or not?

Just keeping this current with the embargo. We could well do ourselves a favour with a bit of a run.

FA Cup Round 5£247,500
FA Cup Round 6£247,500
Semifinals£350,000
Final£600,000

We’ve made 105,000 plus any share of the gate at Millwall.

This moves up to 249,000 this weekend and IF we manage to win, then up to 369,000 plus any gate share.

Not saying it’s massive money wise to date and don’t like to see us scratching around but there is room for a couple more matches to boost the coffers.

After the 16 ties have completed, we are the 11th highest ranked team. After this next round only 9 Premier League teams will remain and that is without any upsets.

A decent display this weekend and a good draw following that and we could be making 7 figures out of the cup. It to be sniffed at for Embargo FC!

I would make a fair few changes against Wrexham

---------------------------Davies
----Sachdev--------Bash--------Egan-----Robbo------Lowe
---------------Berge-------Doyle------Osborn
----------------------Sharp----------McAtee

subs

Wes, Bogle, Byabu Anel, Coulibaly, Norwood, Ndiaye, McBurnie, Jebbo

Davies is obvious

I'd give Bogle a rest. He looked knackered on Friday and he could probably use one after coming back from injury. I'd rather go like for like and give a youngster a chance than play someone out of position. Ditto with Anel. Reckon he'd benefit from a rest and Bash adds experience with a youngster next to him. Solid and experienced CB 3.

I'd play Doyle in the Norwood role, just to see if he can do it in case we lose him to injury. I think he's most suited but questions around the defensive side of his game. If all going well, take him off on 50-60 and give Berge a go there and Coulibaly a 30/40 minute run-out. Osborn on the left hand side of midfield for a bit of energy.

I'd give Ndiaye a rest and also see if McAtee can play that role (in case we need him to). I'd start Sharp for his experience against a non-league defence and given he'll be next to someone who isn't. They seem to link up pretty well, as well.

Not a bad bench if things aren't going well, as well.

Hope PH puts out a team something like this

Davies
Basham Egan Robinson
Youngrightfooter Doyle Coulibaly Osborn
Jebbison Sharp McBurnie

Hi WREXHAM fan here was there yesterday one of them games which we could have lost E.G. plastic pitch but a good win could have scored five good defending and poor finishing. Yes we are flying at home have played 16 games in all competitions and one them all . Looking forward too Sunday no pressure on us 😂 not expected to win . Just wish other fans new what our owners are doing for the club we have been shafted for years by different openers but they are a breath of fresh air . Keep hearing. When they walk away 🙈. But they are going to be here for a long time they are both loving it . When the one over they mix with the fans in the bars and in the stands . I’m sure they will be there Sunday . Hope you have a safe journey Sunday and enjoy your day . Not too much though 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Imagine thinking that a Cup run would make any difference to the financial state of a Championship club

Not sure that I would risk JLT, Lowe and Osborn in this game as it is down our left that we are struggling with injuries. Perhaps play 2 but not all three. What about Brooks?

Isn't Brooks more suited to the McAtee position than as part of a midfield 3? Potentially, you could have Berge and Doyle sitting deeper and push him further up. I'm not convinced we wouldn't lose midfield though! I don't think we have a cover for JLT unless you play Bash there. You could maybe play Buyabu for Lowe but I think we risk losing if we make too many changes. Especially at the back.

I'm not that fussed about the FA Cup but it looks like we could do with the money!

Ok.
Nearest pub is the Plas Coch a 2 minute walk and away fan friendly

The Maesgwyn across the road from the ground is a busy place. Outside bars and a great atmosphere.

The Turf. Absolute chocka on a Matchday,

Wrexham lager club. Fee on door,

Into town centre.
First pub you’ll see is a huge ‘spoons, away fans do go there but the stone island crew needn’t bother.

Hill Street Social, a 3 floor sports bar, very popular and welcoming

Wxm High street.
Far too many pubs and bars to list but pick of the bunch would be
The Fat Boar (great food and owned by ex footballer Barry Horne)
Wrexham Cwtch a cavernous bar with lots of screens showing sports
The Ironworks another multi floor bar with a great choice of beers and loads of screens
The Royal Oak - real ale heaven
Sod the match. Sounds like a reyt neet art

This isn’t an additional game day it’s just another weekend match.

I can well imagine that we will play a much stronger team than people think.

I understand the need to protect players and perhaps that comes in a bit later on when you end up with more midweek games due to the Cup. I’d look for alternative at wing back as we don’t have the insurance of Baldock and Stevens yet.

For now I reckon he might rest 3 or 4 and perhaps the usual suspects you might limit the load from.

Something like this I could see:

Davies
Ahmedhodzic Egan Robinson
Basham Coulibaly Norwood McAtee Osborn
Jebbison McBurnie

Subs - Dewhurst, Sachdev, Doyle, Berge, Brookes, Sharp, Ndiaye

Hope you have a safe journey Sunday and enjoy your day . Not too much though 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Result wise it's kind of a no lose situation for us too.
Win and we can look forward to the 5th round and possibly another decent cup run.
Lose and we can all say "glad we no longer have the distraction of the cup as we can now concentrate on the league"

Obviously for us, we MUST return to the PL next season, otherwise we will lose many of our better players, some are in their final year of their contracts
and as our finances could be from one extreme to the other, so we can't offer any players new contracts yet.

I suppose the most important factor is that the match is being shown live to a national audience.
So of course our image and reputation is important.
If it's a good, closely fort competitive entertaining match with some good football and cracking goals
for example a 3-2 or 4-3 scoreline then even the losers will receive some credit.

Really tricky game and they'll be well up for it and rightly so with the opportunity to get a big Prem club next round if they win.

We need to go strong imo.

Davies

Basham Egan Robinson

Baldock (if fit) or Bogle ‐----------------------- Stevens (if fit) or Lowe

Norwood

Doyle Mcatee

Ndiaye
Sharp

Subs:
McBurnie
Berge
Jebbo
Anel
Lowe
Bogle
 Fodders

If a replay is required or we beat Wrexham ......and get into the 5th round and have a home draw are the club allowed to sell tickets to season ticket holders for the Kop and then general sale for any that remain.........?

Wrexham first goal yesterday... 👀 Looped side foot volley from 18 yards corner of the box.

2nd was a penalty. Seen them given and not. Mullin knows how to win fouls though.

3rd in 90th minute was a weird one tbh. Stuck out leg from a corner inside 6 yard box.

They were fortunate.

Former blade mark Howard in goal for them as well so hecky should be telling our men to shoot as often as possible. 👍

We should have enough next week regardless of squad.

I agree, 15 days from Hull game to Rovrum one so a cup game inbetween won't hurt.

Although the following players do need match fitness..
Davies
Basham
Couilbaly
Osborn
McBurnie
