If you're wishing to trade stories of play off woes then you've come to the right place!
For your Jamie Vardy, we have David Hopkin in the last minute at Wembley.
To quote the Athletic:
Sheffield United's record in the play-offs is dismal. Twenty matches played over the past five decades — eight two-leg semi-final ties followed by four finals — and the Bramall Lane faithful are still waiting to celebrate their first promotion via this route.
Pull up a chair friend, you're in good company
Think we must be contenders for having the longest list of hard luck stories in football.
Also must be the biggest club in the UK to have not won a thing or even been in any final since the war.
Last major trophy was in 1925, last major final was in 1936.
Since then we've
Been in 7 consecutive FA cup semi finals without a win, all very close games losing almost all of them 0-1, not even scoring a goal.
2 league cup semi finals and lost them both, again very tight games conceding very late winners.
8 times in the playoffs, 100% record, never promoted in 8 attempts, probably explains why there's no wild excitement when we do reach the play-offs.
4 play-off finals, lost them all without even scoring a single goal, one we lost conceding deep into injury time, another we were 2-0 up on penalties but still ended up losing 8-7 on penalties with our goalie skying it over the bar.
So you can imagine now that if we ever reach Wembley we just accept we've lost and won't score.
Relegations from the Premier League.
The last time was straight forward but the relegations in 1994 and 2007 were both pretty incredible.
Basically in both matches we were massive odds on favourites to stay up because even if we lost then other teams would need very unlikely wins.
However it's not all doom and gloom.
Up to the 2nd world war, we'd spent almost our entire history in the top flight (at the time one of the best top flight records in England).
Also whilst being out of the top flight 66% of the time we finish in the top 10.
So when not in the Premier League our fans always expect a promotion challenge because that's what we've historically tended to do.
