Marcelo Bielsa is a fascinating man, both as a manager and as a person.

Couple that with an historically large club back in the top flight for the first time since a well-publicised financial collapse in 2003 and you have the recipe for a lot of press coverage. It's really not a big deal, it's simply what the media do, it's their job to drum up stories and controversy where there's little to go on.

Some familiar names there. Stuart Barrowclough and Pat Howard both ex Barnsley. John Tudor, ex Blade, plus Supemac, Duncan Mckenzie etc
John Robertson, Martin O'Neill, Ian Bowyer and keeper Jim Barron (who was assistant manager to Steve Thompson in last few months of 1997-98 season)

I'm baffled as to why so many Sheffield United fans care so much about the media talking about Leeds.

You are absolutely correct. It is all propaganda of the worst kind!

That said, I really like Bielsa. If he was Sheff U's manager I would be elated. And that's the syndrome. Bielsa is fantastic for the Premiere League.

On the other hand, The Dirties are, and always will be, a bunch of un-wanted seat-throwers! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all have to embody the truth: Sheff U are better than The Dirties. We need to be above them both intellectually and in the league. All of us together have to ignore the media propaganda.

Basically, Bielsa will keep them up. He will then leave for Barça. Leeds will be left in the shit and certain for relegation.

Good!

The one thing that niggled me this weekend was Jamie Carragher trying to convince us all that Leeds aren’t hated anymore like they were during there last stint in the premier league.... let’s get one thing straight Jamie. Regardless of how good they are/can be, who plays for them or manages them or however much the media jacks off about them the vast majority of other clubs supporters DESPISE the self entitled scumbags and there supporters. Always have and always will.

That was a mental header from TAA. It’s like he forgot which end he was at. It seemed easier to head it away than to flick it into the net like he did.
I thought he was opting to force the offside rather than concede a corner if the flag didn’t go up.

Good!

Great player Teófilo Cubillas. I remember him best for the 1970 World Cup.

Time will tell about the hype around Bielsa. Looks like defending may be a problem.

Why is it that so called expert pundits have such bias and obsessions with certain clubs? The prime examples being Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle. It doesn't matter what these clubs do the experts constantly big them up.

Pretty much every other day since Leeds were promoted the BBC have written a story about them or Bielsa.

I get they were once a massive team in the 70s. I get that they were contenders for the Premier League and in Europe in the late 90s, though this was due to reckless spending that led to their ultimate downfall, but since 2002/03 when they were relegated they've been out of the top flight. That's 17 years without top flight football and yet since then they're constantly spoken of as if they're still a huge club competing for the title.

During this same 17 year period Newcastle have been relegated and promoted a few times as have West Ham, and yet they're also spoken of as if they're huge clubs competing at the top end of the table, which they're not and never have been during this time. Newcastle were contenders under Keegan in the mid 90s and have done nothing of note since hen and haven't won a single trophy.

So why is it that their recent histories and predicaments are ignored? Why is the past more relevant than the present? What is it with this obsession with certain clubs that you hear on the radio and on TV programmes and read in articles?
Ask your dad.

Leeds have pedigree, since Revie turned them from being an uneventful set of northern cloggers into something of a stylish outfit. The kits, the name and the reputation just 'built' as did the size of the players swedes until both the FA and referees were terrified of them and they could maraud the pitch with their muscular, uncompromising methods. They didn't get the name 'dirty Leeds' for fuck all. Coupled with this was the decision to centralise everything Yorkshire on the city, with the world forgetting that Yorkshire is a big old county with as much diversity in it as Russia has. What stands for taste in Redcar for example, certainly doesn't in Doncaster or Huddersfield. So the nation just went for a median approach and made the city the county's 'capital', hence Look North and Calendar both jizzing into the same cup and other provincial villages, like Sheffield, can just fuck off.

'Course, the title win and fairy-tale 1972 FA Cup win completed the fantasy, despite the planks losing to Stokoe's Mackams the following year but the legend still endured, didn't it? They were Champions of the world according to some and seemingly still farted higher than their own arseholes, despite being able to poach player from neighbouring sides and never really achieving anything of worth. 'Big' managers, O'Leary, Wilkinson and others stil didn't really make the impact so on paper, they're no better than the pigs, or Middlesbrogh, or Hull or Huddersfield, are they? It's only the 'celebrity' status which has kept them aloft. They are football's Kim Kardashian, you look at it with a wince, know it would be fucking expensive, high maintenance hard work for little return and one day think, 'what does this actually do which forwards the good of mankind'?

And now they have a pig-ignorant, curmudgeonly, ranty manager who sits on a fucking bucket to watch the match, and who still refuses to speak the native tongue. It's a great tag-line for the media to hook into and Tifo football can't do enough episodes on him. I am expecting next one on the constituency of his faeces and how many times he knocks one out per day.

Like I say, Sheffield United under Wilder and Knill need to just approach any game with them as just another 90 minutes and bury Bielsa's Leeds United up to their necks. I still hate-Leeds-and-Leeds-and-Leeds, Leeds-and-Leeds-and-Leeds-and Leeds-and-Leeds-and-Leeds-and-Leeds, I still fucking hate Leeds ...

Bielsa has spent over £60M in this transfer window, they don't have a very good goalie or defence and I think they could go down quite easily.
They have spent crazy amounts on salaries as well.
But legend eh! Media love in fest.
Look Leeds 24 hour special coming soon.

A good start but you missed out the attempted bribery, seat smashing fans and you didn't really do justice to the real nastiness of the whole team. They had some good players in the 70s, but they could all dish it out and often did.

'DirtyLeeds' indeed.
