aka... we're South Yorkshire Police and we're going to stand in your way and make it really difficult for you to actually exit.

Rotherham United FC have drawn up plans in conjunction with South Yorkshire Police to try and facilitate the safest possible exit strategy from the ground for all supporters leaving New York Stadium after Saturday's fixture.

At the end of the game against the Blades, home fans will be directed towards Don Street whilst United supporters will exit via New York Way leading to Main Street.

Due to recent changes to human rights legislation over the past few years it is no longer possible to 'hold back' any particular group of supporters after the final whistle.

These restrictions are anticipated to be in place for around 20 minutes following the conclusion of the match.

Both Club's [sic] and the Police would like to thank all supporters for their co-operation and hope everyone enjoys this weekend's local derby.

Which sounds all well and good... but then everyone comes together on Main Street anyway so just sounds like an exercise in annoying people.

My favourite part though is the "recent changes to human rights legislation". Do you think they mean that someone finally explained all the big words to them to make them realise that what they were doing was actually illegal all along?

You know what might have been a plan? building a bridge or more sensibly locating the away end.

Someone finally explained the supporters were human beings and not caged livestock

Nah, we're just there to be herded now.

I can sort of understand why they're doing it (they think there'll be trouble) but the upshot is that for an away match as close as Rotherham, United fans are going to be travelling there via all kinds of methods and needing to get away in all different ways. And bar the shirt-wearers, once you get everyone together, it's hardly like an accent is going to mark out a Miller from a Blade.

So instead of potentially antagonising the vast majority who aren't interested in trouble and just want to take the quickest way home, why not react to the tiny minority who would cause trouble as and when it happens? It's not like SYP aren't going to have bodies on the ground for it with no other local matches this weekend.

It's like being locked in that bloody cage thing at Hull. Achieves absolutely sod all.

Agreed Foxy. And, having more than 2 turnstiles open, might help as well

Being a knuckle-dragging inbred will help indicate the toytown fans.

Don't know about this 'Human Rights' bollox but have seen obviously dangerous fans (Cardiff, Leeds, Millwall etc.) let straight out onto Bramall Lane in recent years to pile into families, kids etc. as it seems part and parcel of an 'away day' is to get completely pissed.

Human Rights or coppers instigating rucks so they can justify their Robocop gear and excessive overtime? You decide.

Anythings got to better than the death trap that was the Railway End at Millmoor
I had my human rights infringed every time I visited that excuse for a football stand

As usual, SYP struggle to police a football match where the crowd will be no more than 12000. As has been stated above, this will do nothing else but antagonise the law abiding supporters who just want nothing else other than a few beers and to watch the match.

At least it is good to know that the legislation has been altered so that coppers aren't allowed to hold groups of fans back anymore. This has been abused so many times over the years.

But being kept in at Ninian Park for 45 minutes and being denied access to the toilets did nothing but rile United fans up, allow them to be easily identified and gave any home fans who wanted grief enough time to go and get tooled up.

I'm afraid it's all part and parcel of going to away games - and the reason why I no longer bother. The idea that the cops adhere to the Human Rights legislation is laughable. They adhere to Section 5 which basically states that you can get nicked for absolutely anything.

p.s. Linz, if you need help with multiple quotes, just ask! :D

The one at Ninian Park was disgusting. I thought I was going to get arrested myself, because I was arguing vociferously with plod, and it got a bit heated. Safe to say that's one part of the world that could do with a nuke dropping on it.

We had stayed overnight in Newport, and afterwards we had to make our way back to the train station through the back streets, in one place where you can't hide your accent, and there's nowhere to run to. We could simply have blended into the crowd if the bastards had just let us out into the great unwashed in the first place.

You'd think there's be an optimised mobile version to make it easier for me to pass my bus journeys on here...

Bradford was toss. We all parked up the hill but the wouldn't let us walk up the hill behind the away end to where we were parked. They directed us along the side stand and up behind their kop to get to the top of the hill.
