When we get promoted next season we may well be relishing an assault on the Championship with a perfectly balanced squad of players, a mixture of youth and experience, pace and mobility, an established pattern of play, all hungry for success after developing the team spirit that comes with a promotion season and a manager absolutely re-born and at the top of his game.

If we had sneaked up this season it would have been in poor shape and with some trepidation; certain young players would have found it difficult to establish themselves.

Always look on the bright side of life..de dum, de dum dedum dedum dedum.:p

You seem to have the same philosophy as the owners, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

.

You're right about 'sneaking up this season'. It would have been a disaster and probably would have established a 'business model' for McCabe. ('See! You can progress by selling your best players and not replacing them!').

However.

I find the misplaced optimism (by some) that has followed the Walsall game quite astonishing. Five days ago, we were 13th and enduring the worst season in memory. Now? 'We can still make the playoffs!' (We can't) and our bunch of de-motivated, lower-league scufflers are suddenly about to undergo a miracle transformation into a team which is 'perfectly balanced' with 'pace and mobility', 'hungry for success' and capable of 'an assault on the Championship'.

I've seen nothing in terms of management or recruitment that doesn't suggest that there's more chance of a relegation battle next season than 'When we get promoted...'

Amen to the above. Saturday was a demonstration of what can be done and it was indeed better football, but what it wasn't was Championship football, which we need to be playing throughout 2016/17 to get promoted.

I am STILL not convinced in any way McCabe is about to do the following things to ensure that:

1. Not sell Done/Brayford/Adams or even Sharp within the two weeks before or after the first game
2. Put his hands in his pockets to invest in the playing staff with quality players
3. Not twist the arms of the 'Technical Board' (who are they?) to re-contract some frankly shit players
4. Engender some real esprit de corps in the club
5. Convince the fans he really is committed to getting out of this division

If he puts item 5 into action the rest will fall in place

On the other hand, Clough gave every indication that he was capable of getting us up in his first season but his second season was pretty crap.

Adkins team next season will be a mixture of this seasons under performing players, academy players and cheap signings. This will include McEverley and Hammond, plus several academy players, who will time to adjust to league one (pathway for the young players). There is nothing to suggest that McCabe and the Prince are to provide a substantial budget for signings. All indications are that the budget will be less than this season. The result will be cheap signings and if they are anything like Adkins signings this season, they wont be very good. They only player who has been a good signing, cost approximately half a million and he wont have that sort of budget next season. It doesn't look promising for a promotion push.

True dat.

I acknowledge that if and when we get up into the Championship, we will need at least three to five years there to consolidate and establish a team even worthy of challenging for the playoffs. We tried once before to get into the Premier League with ostensibly a Championship side and we were left wanting whilst there, especially when key players were crocked. Look at our playing staff, right now. Which one of them would you say would be picked in any of the first teams for the top six of the Chamionship? The only player we had is playing there, right now. Everyone else is stuck with us, dooking it out mid-table in the division below. That is where the philosophy lies. I'm not doubting McCabe and Adkins know this. They are in the business when all is said and done. But it's how McCabe once again admits the past has been a disaster and does something positive to achieve the ambition. If we leave the summer transfer window with sixty percent of the current squad and Adkins spouting psychobabble about 'new starts' and 'energised team' and 'ready for the challenge the new season holds' then I guarantee we will be in the same sorry shithole next April, regardless of the ridiculous optimists and ST holders crying into their beer.

All those issue's will be a lot more transparent if we keep Adkins, he'll be taken to account by the fans on every issue after this season's omnishambles...and thus attention will turn to the board...
New manager, new hope, same old sales, same old excuses...same old L1... :(

Our world class youths will fire us to promotion next season.

At least I think that's the idea.

But the real bright side is the longer we stay in this league, the better chance we have of winning some silverwear (JPT)

If you're on the board and feeling the pressure, give the fans what they want. New manager, new set of platitudes and more importantly last season was all the fault of the ex-manager. The new guy gets to make all these promises of how things will be, gets minimal support, but it takes the dairy off the board.

If McCabe et al are genuine in what they say, Adkins will be around next season and they are putting themselves firmly in the firing line. If they are playing at it and looking for another scapegoat to take the fall, expect Parky to be in charge.

Good post

Our world class youths will get us into a relegation scrap if not managed correctly and blended with quality and experience .

Going to be a bit of a balancing act next season both short and long term.

Tell me it's a dream and we don't become a feeder club for our illustrious neighbours .

McCabe , Adkins and the board have to realise the longer we are in this league , the gulf widens and we will always be playing catch up . Cock ups in the past have now set the benchmark were we are .

I think that is Adkins only option.

I don't think the board will give him any budget to spend.
