Neither looked anywhere near good enough to play in the Championship.

At least Lavery tried and put a shift in. Too often looking for free kicks instead of the ball though. Also too slow in thought and making wrong decisions.

Evans was bloody awful. Looked like a sad sack. Hardly tried or closed down and couldn't hold the ball up for toffee. Everything about him was slow and lethargic.

We need two new strikers for me.
 



Careful what you say about Ched robbiez666. I assessed him in similar terms after his non performance at Middlesbrough, only to provoke a moral panic and folk devil (me) on here afterwards ...

They both had an opportunity to claim a starting place alongside Sharp and neither of them did anything to show that they deserve it. Apart from after the game was lost, Lavery did nowt to suggest Wilder has been wrong to leave him off the bench recently since his poor showing in round 1. Evans looks nowhere near sharp enough to start games.

Based on that showing we should replace Clarke with Brooks, and Brooks and Duffy can help Sharp from deep rather than forcing in a second striker who isn't worth the shirt.
 
Evans, in particular, looks miles short. Could be the lack of pre-season, of course.

Lavery did improve, but when he got bits and pieces he made wrong choices or it bounced off him. He was very ineffective in his hold up play and challenging in the air. He may just need games, but are we in a position to give him those? In a perfect world, I would like him to go out on loan.

Evans was woeful and looked lost. Lavery closed down but he just ambled in general directions. Lavery made runs, he just wandered about.

Billy did at least run into the channels and hold the ball up.
 
To me Evans looks a lot bigger than I remember him, bulked up. He therefore looks and probably is less agile. Couple that with a lack of match sharpness and a downturn in pace and he looks way off what he used to be.

The problem perhaps lies in the expectation for him to be the Evans of old.

I think Clarke has had a decent start to the season apart from the sending off

We played a Prem reserve team. Yes, agreed on the run-out. Good for them all. Still, neither striker did themselves any favours whatsoever.
 
Ched looked way off and couldn't hold the ball up at all. But he had hardly any pre season - which he really needed if he was to hit the ground running.

Purely on football. I'm shocked at how bad his touch has been. I expected him to be lacking in terms of pace and fitness but looks well off the pace at the moment.

They played a Championship reserve team, it works both ways.

Interestingly, two out of their back four from Saturdays game started so it would've been hard for any of our strikers, who are Championship strikers at best to do themselves any favours tonight. Chilwell is a good Left back as well with tremendous pace, drive and energy.
 
Lavery put a proper shift in and got a goal (albeit lucky) he deserves to start with Billy up front on Saturday.

Brooks obviously talented but too often makes the wrong choice, turns in to trouble or try's a Hollywood ball. His time will come but I don't think he's ready to start.

Baldock played well and I thought him, lavery and brook added some much needed pace to the side.

Freeman looked steady as part of a back 3.

I would give Baldock,Lavery a start on Saturday based on today's game.

We do need more quality signings though.

Like the look of Gray as well, albeit it he's very one-footed.
 
Neither were good enough tonight.

Lavery looks a decent League one player, maybe lower Championship but still not sure.

Evans looks like he would struggle to get a game for E Wing, always a gamble to sign him back and it's looking like it's not working, as long as It is not hamstringing us for bringing others in..
 
I was disappointed with Evans tonight. From reports on the Walsall match and against Cardiff I was expecting a bit more but he just seemed, well, slow. No energy from him. I think he may fade back into league one before long.
 
Agree Evans looked out of sorts tonight, hardly touched the ball
But it's his 1st game where he's started so has an excuse,
however it's fair to be concerned as it might not be until Xmas at the earliest when he starts firing.
 
People are expecting some sort of fairytale to happen where Evans comes back and bangs 20'goals in. He will be lucky to get 4 all season. He's not the ched of old . Didn't win a single header today , touch was horrendous and not once did he look to make a run behind the defence. You can all slate me all you want but honestly he isn't good enough. League one player at max
 
All defending him as well, but it's his 1st game bla bla bla he needs to get his fitness up. He isn't going to cut it in this division , seem him 4 times now since he's been back , except against wallsall he's looked lost
 
Neither did much, Lavery looked better as the game went on, but neither can be criticised too much because they had little to work with. The main concern is Evans' lack of pace and agility. Too early to judge him properly though.

I can't see either starting on Saturday now. Brooks must have gone ahead of them in the pecking order, even if it means changing it to a 3-4-2-1.

Not entirely helped by those suggesting at the time he signed that it was a great signing because Wilder will get him playing as he was before. He might, but it's going to be a long road to that, and will only happen in my opinion if he stays fit. What was perhaps the biggest concern was the body language as he was subbed – you could tell he was disappointed with his performance, and Prestridge had to have a few words (presumably of encouragement). On the plus side this is the longest he's played in one game for quite a while (February?), so there is at least that.

If he is going to be of use as a starter, it's probably going to be a while. We can't wait though, we need someone now. Wilder knows it, and I've no doubt based on what he's seen from all the strikers so far he will be working to bring some extra firepower in – who can add something on day 1.

E vans has every right to be dissapointed he's not up to pace by a long way and has to work on his sharpness and fitness.
It was always going to take time to reach the required levels and maybe he won't ,but after all he's been through I m sure he's going to keep trying and we need to be patient with him
