Eusebio was a tremendous player. I was fortunate enough (meaning old enough) to watch the 1966 World Cup.
Eusebio oozed class and was as dynamic as any player I've ever seen. In today's crazy footballing world he'd be valued at £50-60 million, and he would have been up there with the very best. RIP, a great footballer

In 1966 he was pretty much regarded as the second best player in the world.
He struck the ball with awesome force when shooting. He was a great player and a true gentleman of the game.

I was fortunate enough to see Eusebio play for Benfica at Old Trafford in the '60s in what I think was a European Cup quarter final and two things stand out.

First he took a free kick from the centre circle and struck one of the hardest shots I think I have ever seen and it shaved the Man Utd post before Alex Stepney in the Man Utd goal moved. A bit like Baxter against Oldham but half as far out again. Mind you Alex Stepney used to come in for some stick quite often. Rumour had it that he was walking down Stretford Road one day and tripped and fell in front of a bus and the bus went under him.

The thing that stood out to me most of all about Eusebio was that he was so gracious in both victory and defeat. He was a credit to the game of football and to humanity and, as football supporters, we should be grateful that he graced our game .

saw the game ast goodison where he single handed brought Portugal back from 3-0 down to Korea to win 5-3 , Bobby Charlton rates him the best triker of a ball ever , cant really argue with that

up there with the Cryuff Pele Maradona Messi all time greats , a goal a game record in pro football is like scoring 300 every time at ten pin bowling , RIP great man

The only other occasions (apart from EC final 1968) in the 1960s that Man U played Benfica was the two legged European Cup tie was in 1966 (the 2nd leg was a more famous match as Man U won 5-1 at the Stadium of Light). When I went to see Brian Deane play for Benfica v Porto in 1998 I was fortunate enough to meet and have a chat with Eusebio during and after the game. He was brilliant company and spoke very highly of Deano and Jimmy Hagan, who was once the Manager at Benfica. As a player he ranks alongside Pele, George Best and TC as one of the all time greats.

Brilliant player. Built like a brick shithouse and struck the ball like a hammer. Amongst all that, he was a proper sportsman, and fantastic representative of football in his later years.
