I wouldn’t have sent him off in real time but it’s really not as bad a decision as people are making out. Over the ball, studs up and into his ankle. Yes Ribery clearly makes a meal of it but it’s a clumsy tackle at best, reckless at worst, plus he’s the last defender as Ribery breaks forward. You always run the risk.

He absolutely should use his right foot here. I bet you that doesn’t get overturned.

Wouldn't say it was over the ball more like the side of the ball.

How is he supposed to tackle flat footed?

Agree he should have gone with his right foot but I've seen worse tackles where the player was not even booked.

How is he supposed to tackle flat footed isn’t a defence. You can’t studs up someone’s ankle, however you tackle.

I wouldn’t have sent him off but I can see why the ref has. I think VAR has no need to overturn whatever decision was made.

This is the problem with taking a screenshot of a particular moment and trying to make sense of what happened. When you watch it in full you can see that he doesn't go over the ball, it was the side of the ball. He also doesn't go into Ribery's ankle, though it looks like he does on that image.

Edit: and if you watch the video in slow motion, rather than looking at a still image you will notice that Ampadu turns his foot by the time Ribery gets there so his studs aren't towards him anyway

I’ve watched it in Slo mo. Take your point but it looks to me like he slides his foot down the ankle. can’t say I agree but take your point.

Poor tackle and although he’s unfortunate, brought it on himself.

I didn't realise that ugly twat Ribery was still playing.

I can see him going on a free to Cardiff City at this rate.

One thing not doing it for us in the PL but he is struggling out on loan abroad. I expect Chelsea will cut him loose.
Ampa-du-du-du
Shoehorn him into a back 3
Ampa-du-du-du
Or midfield, defensively

Out on loan, out on loan, out on loan
Doing awfully
Ampa-du-du-du
Bagging Chelsea a loan fee...

Let's be fair to the lad, he's been sent out three seasons in a row to struggling clubs (that could have been his choice mind).

He'll be fine in the championship
Fine? Bottom half squad player for a long ball team you mean. Come to think of it, would love to see him sign for the pigs

Sunderland on loan is my guess. Decent football, fairly competitive, fairly pressure crowd fanbase to try and cope with.

If he was on a free and his wages were relatively cheap then he might be worth a punt. But being honest, he was poor that season we got relegated (as we're most of the team) and he's hardly shone since he left (and been relegated 3 times on the bounce!). Still a relative pup but I see no reason why we would think 'hes untapped potential' more than many other players who are 21 and who haven't just had 3 seasons of failure. I'm not saying he's a non starter but I was less than impressed and I see nothing to suggest he's worth signing now. Leave well alone and learn from past mistakes. I wish him well though.
