Icey true he gave Bamford a free header in the first that that he might have scored with then completely miskicked a ball that nearly lead to a goal.

However for his first game at centre back he did well. I think he actually be better in the holding midfield role allowing Berge to get forward more.

He gave us a good outlet for Ramsdale. Was good to see us go short a few times rather than just lump it. I thought he did well overall and should have got a penalty - definite shove in the back.

I was sceptical when he signed tbh but he is quickly proving me wrong. Played well against a difficult opponent. Made a couple of bad choices and needs to be rationed to one Hollywood pass per game but has fitted into our system extremely quickly. Especially considering JoC was out as well.

Hardly. Grealish did his usual put his leg in the way of the opponent and then fall down.

Decent enough display from Ampadu. He plays with a lot of authority. He likes to get on the ball, he likes to try to control the tempo, he dictates, communicates, he's got a lot of leadership skills for a lad so young. Seemed to always be close to the action.

In the DCM role he's not afraid of pushing up field and probing on the edge of the box. He backs his athletic ability to get back & cover.
However, his distribution was a mixed bag. Some stray passes, some decent long sprays. He never hid though when he lost it. He's got a great head on his shoulders.

2ndn half he got really stuck in. Seemed to be charged with marking Grealish. He had to foul him a few times, but - then again - most players in the Prem have to foul Grealish (who continues to look excellent).

Culpable for England's first though. He found himself in what would be our LCB position in the 18 yard box. One-on-one against Grealish, he got stood him up, gave Grealish too much space & he whipped in a delightful cross for an unmarked DCL (also very good) to score unmarked with a header.

Outside of that moment, Ampadu looked comfortable at a very high level of football.

I certainly think he'd work well in a pairing with Norwood, or Berge in our midfield. Possibly even on his own at the base.

Not completely sold on him as a centre half. I think he'd be a great centre half for a team that wants their defenders to be cultured & carry the ball out of defence. A team that has most of the ball in games and one that doesn't have to do much defending.
But for us? Not convinced he'd be the answer long term. Could certainly do a job there when required, but I've a feeling his future lies in midfield.

Kean Bryan just liked your post.

I thought he was our best midfielder today. He's lightweight and gives the ball away too much but was the only one driving us forward.

Let us hope that we have the option to. He is fuckin garbage. I'd rather have a player from the championship who will bust a gut for us. Hes not interested a d clearly doesn't want to be here. He knows its just a few months and then he is off back to Chelsea.

Like a lot of them at the Lane at the moment, he has the heart of a pea.

We had a midfield must have missed that bit. No one picked up Davis first half and he ran the midfield for them. We just look like 11 players caught in the headlights.

Ampadu isn't good enough - happy for him to go back to Chelsea....there must be better options for what we are paying him

Piss poor. And some deluded Chelsea fans think he’s better than Declan Rice. Clearly don’t watch any of our games

I didn't see him heading a simple clearance back into our penalty area leading to the goal today ala Chris Basham

What does Ampadu actually do?
He’s not a ball winning midfielder / he’s not box to box / he’s not an attacking midfielder. He just wonders around and is half decent on the ball. That’s it.

May I say the unsayable and say you could apply those same "attributes" to Berge?

Or maybe our other players just make them look mediocre?

Might be OK in a defensive midfield role but nothing further forward than that as he very rarely plays a ball forward.

A decent defender in the making and tidy passer, and if we are to play him it should be at the back. But he'll never play for Chelsea, and the longer the goes on the less reason to play him unless there is a deal to sign him full time.

40% more than £23m Brewster.

No, but you did see him stand there and watch them pick up the loose ball in our area and create the goal when he was the closest United player to it.
