I’m after help from you merry bunch of bladesmen.
My eldest after loads of prompting from me has chosen to come to the open day at Sheffield uni, top lad, to be fair he loves the blades so I think it will be a no brainier for him.
Guess when the leather arm patch wearing knobs have their open day, this Saturday and the talk on Astro engineering is at 2pm the dicks!
So I can’t now cancel on him and I haven’t been back for about 20 years and only lived in Sheffield for 4 years so it’s all very hazy.
Can u guys recommended somewhere close we could watch match with the Mrs not to far from the uni so I don’t miss to much?
Then onto a top night around Sheffield later on
Thanks in advance

The Edge Bar on the Endcliffe Campus will be open, showing the match & serving :)

...
My suggestion? Interval Café at the Student's Union.

It's closer than Crookes, will be less busy than West Street/Division Street, serves decent beer and has a big screen showing the World Cup. It's next door to Bar One which is the main University student bar, which will also have the game on but has poor beer and will be busier. Interval is much more student's mum friendly. Pretty sure you'll be able to get in on Open Day but I'll check tomorrow. ...

Confirmed that it's open on Saturday specifically for people attending the open day, and will have the match on a big screen.

Edited to add:
Another to consider dependent on how far you want to travel would be Picture House Social on Abbeydale Road. They've had a massive screen fitted in the car park and have street food and craft beer stalls serving alongside the more standard beer offerings and i know several people who've seen the other games there and have said the atmosphere was brilliant and none of the beer chucking idiots when we score.

There is a screen in the car park, but also the cinema itself is open and showing the game on the massive cinema screen. It's a good place to watch the match but as you suggest is not close, and will be very busy by kick off. Also, while there's some acceptably priced draft the food and cans are very expensive.

Just the outside screen in the car park on Saturday due to a wedding in the auditorium. If we get to the semi then the whole place will be open again for that.

Agreed on the prices although plenty of choice by all accounts.

I'm debating it as a venue for the final if we get there as will probably be ticket only, they're a customer of mine so shouldn't be an issue, even though i don't live in Sheffield anymore but looks a decent venue by all accounts.

They did, new manager now though and not really wanting to promote a Real Ale pub to football fans, like most pubs down Kelham Is.

This type of attitude really winds me up to be honest. What don't football fans like Real Ale or is Real Ale too posh for your average fan???

The landlord at The Fat Cat down Kelham Island tried showing the Euros 2 years ago but couldn't put up with all the tutting, complaints and people walking out so now doesn't bother.

Bloody real ale crusties :(

Uni Arms used to open for Tramlines and for football, i suppose there are plenty of pubs open for football, however they dont want the 'traditional' football crowds eg Walkabout, Yates etc, leave that to the competition?

I drink lager when i do have a few so Ill not bother them again :)

A big thank you to all of your advice, we managed to get to the interval bar that had a large tv inside and 2 outside, we loved our day, Sheffield is still an amazing city as I remember it , maybe it’s through red and white tinted specs, but my son loved it as did the good lady, ended up going up to Miller and carter for food and then was pretty much done, top top day out!

If there turns out to be a problem with Interval then the Doctor's Orders is a pub just next to the Uni which sells real ale and has lots of TVs. If that's not an option you can continue up to The Itchy Pig or other Crookes pubs.

Thanks, I attended the University open day and watched the game here. Got there late so had to look around a few posts first half.

At half time I managed to get a great vantage point, with no obstructions

Unbelievably, just as they were starting the second half, Jamal turned up!

Fucking students ;)

Great game, great result and thanks for your suggestion :)
