Went last night ....... interesting night and more enjoyable than watching the England team under Southgate.

Good finish by DCL who enjoyed his goal in front of the Kop :)

Couple of young players for us to watch ...... Dael Fry at CH (Middlesboro) in particular looked comfortable on the ball.

Interestingly ....... Sessignon looked poor ...... I wish he'd played like that for Fulham against us ....... Gray looked a FAR better player.

What was also interesting is the way that even at U21 level, the press have decided MOM before the game is played. Sky have Maddison down as MOM ....... personally, I thought he was poor and always running into trouble ...... missed a great chance in 2nd half trying to go for the "Hollywood" finish and put it in the stand. He also spent half the game on his arse (same as in League games) ........ most people round us were saying we need Maddison off and Abraham on at half time.

It was a great goal from DOM, the lad must be made up this morning...

To think you enjoyed all these perks but the internet was not one of them :)

There wasn't time mate, I only had a week to cram everything in, planned it around the international break, so as not to miss any footie

Interesting article in the paper yesterday about "Bladesman" Calvert Lewin returning to his beloved Lane and meeting up with loads of old blade mates and family whilst making his international debut.
Hmmm.m.m, .... pauses, and reflects on another academy talent sold for peanuts. Will it ever end? I expect not.

Nobody thought it was a bad deal at the time mate, or very few. Many of our fans who had watched DCL said he was pacey, hard working and good in the air but nothing special. I still say the verdict is out, since he's a young pro yet to establish himself at Everton. It could go either way but I hope he makes it.

Thought the MOM was the Ukrainian No 20 Oleksandr Pikhalyonok - very dangerous - gerimin!. Joshua Onomah was decent for England in the second half. Maddison, saw him at Norwich as well, he's a good player but a complete and utter cock!

At the time it was a fantastic piece of business.
I watched Calvert Lewin a few times and he was very underwhelming and raw, no where near as good as Sharp or Clarke.
He was probably our 5th choice striker, even well behind Lavery.

Transfers are all about timing and the position (financially and where we are in the league table) a club is in at the time.

At the time DCL was promising but miles away from being good enough to break into the 1st team.
At the time we were a league 1 club making losses every season due to paying decent wages and negligence tv money.

Bet the club couldn’t believe their luck when Everton offered 1 million for a SU reserve player.
We didn’t need DCL at the time and will have used some of his transfer to keep other players which helped lead to promotion.

Serious question, is your suggestion that no Academy player should ever be sold?
It’s normal for young players to look promising in their youth but then they don’t even make it in the game and dissappear.
PL clubs have so much money that they can afford to buy 10 DCL’s every season.
That method might destroy many careers but Everton can afford it and the players are happy due to getting a big short term pay rise.

An enjoyable evening, next to nothing to get in and a decent crowd including my grandson who absolutely loved it. I know there were a lot of kids in attendance but if only some of them got as much out of it as he did then the next generation of fans is garuanteed.
My man of the match was the Ukraine number 22, very pacey and made some good intelligent runs and overlaps.
I didn’t get a programme so couldn’t tell you his name but I wouldn’t mind him in our team sometime.

Two things annoyed me.

The big screen - what the fuck is it for? We host a televised international and it can't even show the team line ups.

Secondly, they announced the "player of the match". I wasn't aware women were on the pitch too?

Of the 31 league games this season, DCL has started or appeared as a sub in 29 of them. In December Everton decided they’d seen enough of him to extend his current deal to 2023. I’d say he’s established himself at Everton – cementing his place in the first team is the next step.

No, I'm not saying no academy player should ever be sold, just, stop, assess and hold on to the diamonds, why let others who buy cheap reap the full benefits? I give you Tottenham and Walker, they didn't even come I for him, they were only interested in Naughton, Kev shoed him as a £1.5m add on - now look, even Spurs can't afford to hold on to him. We have to learn to say NO - our young diamonds are OURS. Pay mega bucks or fuck off. This should start with Brooksy

Do you really think that is true? Some sort of 'buy one get another half price' or maybe they just took him to stop Kyle Naughton getting homesick?

Spurs would have watched every player in the Championship academies many times. To suggest otherwise betrays an ignorance of the depth and reach of the Premier League scouting networks.

Either way - the fact remains we sold our best player in decades for peanuts - fact

Agreed and I was far more disappointed at KW going than KN. The fact that they had the same agent, Bastard Rankine, is of course not a coincidence. With the memory of a shite performance in the 2003 play off final still fresh in the mind, Rankine further 'helped' us by taking our best two young players at the time.

That twat should be barred from ever entering the Lane or Shirecliffe.
