I didn't expect two central midfields at all to be honest, i assumed we'd get leonard, plus a striker and one or two defenders. I'm guessing evans and leonard will make our bench in the coming games so that surely sends carruthers out of our matchday squads. 4 in , 4 out seems to be wilders thinking, is he next on the way out - maybe a loan back to league 1 or the conference north!?

Yes probably, he’s had a couple of chances now at this level and not taken them, he even had the shirt at the start of the season and lost it (rightly) to Duffy.

Will have to drop down to League one again and try to find his form. Can’t see him coming back even if it’s only a loan for now.

Wish people would shut up with all this embarrassing shite suggesting Carruthers is some sort of bog standard lower league player.

How quickly some forget we were watching Dean Fucking Hammond and Martyn Woolford little over 18 months ago. Jesus.

He was good in the first half at Ipswich by the way (not seen the 2nd half yet). Not that people would notice that though, because he passed one out of play...

He's had his chances (last season and this) and looks like Tufty has seen enough.

He's never really shown the consistency required despite some brilliant moments.

Fair enough. If he's seen enough, then so be it.

I suspect so as Wilder has given him every opportunity...There's a good player in there somewhere though although I think he's more of a Duffy type player than a standard central midfielder.

Whiteman can't have much chance now and I expect to see him go on a permanentcas when all are fit there's 5 or 6 in front of him.

My one nagging doubt is that the signing of both Leonard and Evans is an insurance policy against Fleck going this month or in the summer.

Maybe, but regarding Fleck, there's no way in this current market he's worth less than 7-8m.

Moving him back into the central two v. Ipswich seemed pretty telling. There's no way he'll get a game there in future now.

But he's the only realistic alternative no. 10 to Duffy as things stand. (There's Brooks, but he's more a maverick/"make things happen"-type, not the sort of link-player like Duffy that's so vital to the system as it exists.)

All depends if we're getting another no.10 in, I'd have thought.

I really liked what I saw last year at times. Just get the feeling he might be a flat track bully. Could definitely see him being good in a free role for an attacking team. Not sure hes right for us at this time but i wouldn't give him away for nothing

I’m not sure whether he’s Championship quality or not but he’s not really had a decent run of games. It took Lundstram 3 or 4 games to look any good, Samir gets 20 minutes once a week if he’s lucky.
He was first choice first 3-4 games wasn't he. He has got a fantastic touch and looks technically good but he just doesn't do enough. Both in effort - tracking back and driving towards goals to make things happen. Likes to take the easy route too often, turning back to our own goal and slowing the move down

If we can get our money back I’d sell him. He had better games last season but even then I thought he was greedy with little end product.

Wasn't he going to be off to Charlton on loan but the owners are looking to sell so the chubby scouse twat has said all deals are off for January?

Ricky Holme in a swap as cover for the Bounce Killer?

Yeah but these boys were Adkins flops, Wilder is a different beast. If Carruthers isn't floating his boat then he's gone, end of. Wilder ain't fucking around here, no matter who you are you are expendable and can be replaced by better. His drive to get us to the premier will not be based on potential or sentiment.

When he came on at Southend and turned the game last season I thought we had a star in the making on our hands.

For a variety of reasons it just hasn't really worked out for him and when he's bad, he's really bad. Just not happened for him but I can see him.going to be a success elsewhere at some point in his career.

Oh for a player with no imagination or ability to run at a man, then turn back and pass it sideways.

Carruthers lacks end product in my opinion. This comes down to the mental side of the game and having a certain level of intelligence. Carruthers for me lacks in this department and that is the clear difference between him and Duffy. Duffy is an intelligent player and can find that final bit. However, Duffy does need help and Carruthers has had his time for the immediate future.

There’s also nearly a decade between them. At 24, Duffy was at Southport and loaned out to Morecambe

We all saw a player in him but it aint worked out up to now, but our management have decided to bring in two midfielders, it seems to me that Carruthers who cannot get in our starting eleven is now surplus to requirements?

Sammy has everything it takes, apart from real desire. In preseason he was having fun, and played brilliantly.

As soon as it’s serious he just doesn’t function. I bet he’s great in practice. He’s a bit like Jose - loads of talent from the ground up, until you get to his head!

He’s had the opportunity to establish himself on two occasions now - at the start of the season and after Couttsy’s bust leg. He’s blown both of them and he’s history.

Magic Doesn’t Just Happen

The one thing about CW that we have not had with the last few previous managers he is ruthless even if he brought you to the club if you are not good enough you are out

He's clearly a talent but what whatever reason, it's not happened for him this season.
He can unlock defences in the blink of an eye and in a totally different way to how Duffy can.

I like Carruthers and feel he could still have a future here. He's not getting the rib of the green at the moment and Mark Duffy isn't getting any younger.

A loan till the summer could suit everybody at this moment in time.

Carruthers would be a great player if there was a position between attacking midfielder (number 10) and normal central midfielder

Carruthers + a bit of cash for Ricky Holmes

Then I reckon our window could just be about done.
