The fixture situation of playing the same team twice in the space of a few weeks
makes for an interesting phase from now till the end of January
We have the excitement/trepidation of playing Man City twice, Liverpool, West Ham, Arsenal
Trepidation thinking worst-case scenario that we don’t pick up any points at all
I don’t think that will be the case but In terms of us getting closer to mathematical safety consider this
Watford have Aston Villa twice, wolves, Bournemouth and Spurs
Villa have Watford twice, Burnley Leicester Man City and Brighton
Bournemouth have Brighton twice, West Ham Watford and Norwich
Brighton have Bournemouth twice, Everton Villa and Chelsea

Those struggling currently in the bottom positions can’t all score a rake of points
As they are playing each other at least once

I am not sure how many points we will be on at the end of January but I do think it will be clearer which 3 to five clubs are right in it and it won’t be us
If pushed I suspect we will be on 34 points just before the Palace game

The team who finishes 18th generally gets a point per game. Even if Villa got more than a point per game, somebody just above them would revert into their spot. We're eleven points clear of the drop zone so statistically likely that we could lose the next eleven before falling into the drop zone. That takes us to 30 games and every point we get moves us another game clear - statistically. It would take an extraordinary collapse from us to get ourselves involved in the scrap at the bottom now. 3 wins and we're 100% safe IMO.

End of May,

Everyone will have played everybody else twice and some will have been winners, some will have been losers and some will be drawn.

The 17 teams with the most points and/or better goal differences will have stayed up.

Points at the end of January mean sod all because some teams will have supposed "harder" fixtures still to come and some will have "supposed"
easier ones.

Trepidation of facing West Ham??!!
Point taken but I'd rather play West Ham right now than anyone in the league, I fancy us at Arsenal, I think Citeh on a cold January night'll be brilliant and wouldn't put a result past us.

Fair enough the next 2 are as tough as it gets but we couldn't face them at a better time etc etc, I fancy us getting something Sunday. Let's see but I don't think January fills me with dread

Personally think we will pick up 4-6 points from now until the end of Jan. Beat those tossers at home and perhaps a result against Arsenal. As good as we are playing tough to envisage much more than that. 4 would leave us on 33 though. Safe ?
