Don’t see how they can prevent ticket sales on match day

We shouldn’t be surprised by the council it’s always been a PIG council

Tell them to do one

Whilst these lads have been stood there, have the stewards taken any action to move them to their seats/question where they should be?
I dont understand how its lead to a bigger complaint, the only thing I can think of is a busy body has reported to the club which has fell on deaf ears so they've escalated it

Hopefully top tier of the away end and the corner are fully opened for each match so late attendees can go there.

But rubbish if we lose money because someone effectively doesn't sit in the seat they bought.

Ha. That would imply that they'd even noticed.

Do they get paid enough to wade in and attempt to remove 10-15 gobby teenagers? That's the other issue.

The worrying part of this is that I don't see it being resolved.

There are too many fans that instead of complying are going to carry on doing it. Therefore they could end up closing the stand.

I'm not an advocate of keeping seated during matches, for me if you are at your seat standing to sign/cheer is fine.
I also think safe standing is a a good idea.

However standing on the steps/gangways or out of your seat and sitting in the wrong seats (Especially given our crowds are currently pretty near capacity) Is something that shouldn't be hard to do. If fans continue to do it it will get worse not better.
It shouldn’t be that difficult. Get private security in, with a couple of coppers. Check tickets in the areas where they know there’s a problem. Eject people sat in the wrong seat from the ground, record their details. If they do it again, don’t allow them to buy any more. If anyone kicks off when they’re ejected, coppers arrest them.

Don't really know what to make of this. Me and my mates have season tickets on the Kop and we've always stood at the back of gangway E, but mine is the only ticket where my seat is actually situated where we stand. Me dad also joins us back there whenever he gets a ticket.

That makes it sounds like we're part of the problem and there's probably an argument to be made there. However, we've done this in the same spot for over ten years now and overcrowding has never really been an issue, with the possible exception of the big and important games where it's to be expected.

This season, our area has been horrendously overcrowded due to a large influx of younger supporters who seem to have come from nowhere. This lot don't seem to care if there's quite clearly no room for them to stand - they simply barge in and plonk themselves absolutely anywhere they can, even if it means penning people in behind them or completely obstructing the views of others. Furthermore, these young 'uns feel compelled to throw themselves about and swing their arms if we score a goal, meaning people falling over seats and knocking others over. I've no problem with going mad over a goal, but when you're potentially endangering others with your celebrations (including the very old fellow just in front and to the left of us who has been knocked down and lost his glasses already this season) then it becomes an issue.

I'm guessing things like this are why they've taken the action they have. As I say, I can't really complain too much because I attend the match with a gang of people who don't sit in their allocated seats. But it's a great shame to punish those who've never caused the issues and I don't think folk will be happy with this at all.

Hecky has said how much of a difference the fans can make when we make the noise. That ain't made by people sat down and being well behaved. There's a balance to be struck which I'd argue has been fine until this season when, at least where we are, people are squeezing into areas where there's quite clearly no room. I believe we may be moving stands for next season for the reasons outlined above.

Your paragraph about the younger supporters who are doing it and a new large influx of them doing so it's interesting. Given it's started this season this could be why this has come to the fore.

With any luck they don't have season tickets, and this issue can stop for the time being and then tickets will be allowed to be purchased again on the kop soon-ish.
For me if they can identify them, give them a warning and if they carry on ban them for a bit.

Got to get you and your charlied up mates showing the 'absolute limbs' on twitter

Just received same email

No other council would even threaten to take it this far

This is completely pathetic

As if any serious overcrowding or safety issues have ever arisen from this. The scared pathetic bastards want to pretend another Hillsborough is possible. Anything to make them feel relevant

Give it a few years and everyone on the kop will sit down
Hysel, Hillsborough, Ibrox who next the Lane. You try to prevent a disaster before it happens, if these morons can't sit in their allocated seat then throw them out and ban them.

Well this is something. You could probably eradicate this problem with extra security and police quite quickly and then of course get a record of their details.

I'm normally Kop middle , gangway E/F. Didn't realise things were that bad right at the back.

Exactly the reason we moved from the back of the Kop to the South for the start of last season. Coked up dickheads spraying beer around when we scored.

A depressing number of replies along the lines of "sort it art, yoounited"... as though the Club really want to forfeit matchday ticket sales for an entire stand 🙄

Got to get you and your charlied up mates showing the 'absolute limbs' on twitter

It's definitely the 'limbs' thing that they're going for, but this lot are too young for charlie. Some of their voices aren't even broken.

Love their fucking Elf bars, though. It's like they're all suckling on Crayolas.

It reads to me that the Council and SGSA have asked the club to intervene before further measures are taken, and the club have made the decision to stop selling tickets, rather than it being the Council and SGSA making that decision.

Maybe the club have had to do that in order to avoid a potentially harsher restriction being placed on the club.

But either way, at this stage it's a club decision.

If they're now not selling matchday tickets for the kop that's already a massive step, and it's gone too far

Are the club really so powerless..... really?

How the hell can this sort of imposition be acceptable - even if there was a shred of justification

The cowardly individuals on the council need to come out and explain themselves on this
I don’t think the none sale of tickets has been imposed on the club reading the letter. It reads rather like we’re on our final warning from the council and if we don’t do something they’ve threatened to shut the stand.

How do we go on with Junior Membership ?. Grandchildren have them and go every so often, I get them on the Kop so they can be near me. Can't really get them anywhere else in the ground and leave them on their own. Any ideas from the club on a time scale? they want to go to Burnley and Rotherham games.

You don't actually need to do the limbs part though, you just need to say it

If not, then how can there reasonably be this step we now see (which has never been communicated as a next step, for non-compliance, as far as I believe)?

It doesn’t really matter what they’re paid. Their role is to prevent events from occurring and uphold safety and if they’re not doing that, then surely this is the crux of the issue.

If there had been a similar announcement to say something like “ we are investigating some known issues and stewards will be actively removing people who are persistent standers/ in the wrong seat. If this continues to be an issue, match day ticket sales will cease”, then that’d be fair enough. But it feels like it’s been a fairly silent operation with no fan engagement and no communication whatsoever around a failure to comply.

Sitting down is an issue for me in cramped areas like the Kop. Am I now disabled?

I’d imagine the route back from this will be phased maybe by gangway. The club will need to demonstrate issues of overcrowding in certain areas of the stand have been resolved.

I also wonder if bans for repeat offenders might start to be handed out the club can’t afford this to become the regular state of affairs.

Spoke to a pal who sits a little further over. He reckoned they could be the same scrotes who caused similar issues over towards gangway F/G but were booted off there by a combination of stewards and other fans who were pissed off with them, and they're basically making their way over and doing the same elsewhere.

Hopefully they can make their way over to the fucking bin and they can all get cosy in there with their shit songs and crap vapes.

Seems to be something of an issue elsewhere as well. I also remember 10/15 years ago Man U being threatened with closure of parts of Old Trafford.

I’m fairness to the club and authorities it really hasn’t come out of nowhere. This must have been an issue for at least the past 5 years or so in this part of the ground, if not more. More and more people standing at the top of a gangway every week as the crowd is at near capacity and something has to give.

As mentioned above the club don’t make the rules and the same logic that people apply to player contract negotiations (i.e “tell ‘em to fuck off”) isn’t going to work here if they want to keep selling tickets.

Likewise the local authority are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Suppose a serious accident occurs - they will be first to cop for the blame.

I have serious gripes with the Saftey Advisory group needlessly moving kick offs, coupled with SY Police heavy handed approach but with this I feel more inclined to say ‘fair enough’. If the Odeon was letting people stand in the aisles every week during a film or a pub was letting treble the number of people they have a safety certificate for and setting fireworks off indoors you’d expect the local licensing authority to have their say on the matter.

All that said this is a known issue and a proper consultation with fans on safe standing might have gone a long way to mitigate this.

I sit on the south stand & I genuinely never knew this was an issue? I dont understand how or why its a council issue either? Surely a football league issue but not council?

You've never noticed the back rows of the kop all have people stood up as well as into the gangways..?

I personally don't view it as a problem but some obviously do.

They got the bell end stewards in for a couple of games. But all they checked was if you're going down the correct gangway. Waste of time.

Check the area in question, like the poster above has written about. Seems like that is the problem area. Fix that.
