News breaking this morning that we are courting the services of Elias Cobbaut. Atalanta had been linked prior to ourselves.

He plays left back for Anderlecht, stands at 6'2" and is 22.

Would seem a good fit for the squad as left centre back and left back.

Article is in French though doesn't tell you anything I haven't already mentioned other than the interest is concrete and has been confirmed by several sources.

The Anderlecht fans I know are not really high on him as a left-back, they prefer him as a CB. In general, they are surprised by the interest as he made quit some mistakes this first season half (even got dropped from the first team for a while) That being said, he's only 22 and played out of position according to these fans, so if we see him as a CB it could be a good move.

“After Atalanta Bergamo, here comes Sheffield United who is very interested in 22-year-old Elias Cobbaut. The interest in the current 8th in the Premier League is really concrete, as confirmed by several reliable British sources.”

Several reliable British sources, Stir and Sunjihi

I've wanted us to sign someone who can properly cover LCB and LWB. Maybe this guy fits the bill.

Interesting that Atalanta want him because there are big similarities in the way we set up and play.

Not surprised to see us looking in Belgium again. It seems the most obvious place after France.

Seems like there is at least some interest from both parties -

22yo #rsca LB/LCB Elias Cobbaut watched the #mcfc v #sufc game on Dec 29 at Etihad and is now strongly linked to the #twitterBlades https://t.co/C3gNENusY1

Didn't realise he's recently played for Belgium! Did 90 minutes too. Albeit only against Cyprus.

It says Anderlecht want to make a small profit on £2.5m so maybe he'll be around £4m.

Is it just me or do you think Princey is more likely to shell out on Van Winkell’s Belgian recommendations?

He was willing to stump up much much more than this for McBurnie, who I’d be surprised if he was a VW recommendation.

Belgium shouldn’t be too surprising as a location, Prince Abdullah already has a footing there anyway with KFCO Beerschot Wilrijk.

Yeah, what I’m trying to get at is that it’s more of a gamble signing players from abroad and if VW recommends a player, then CW gives the thumbs up too, you’re minimising the risk. If it was me, I’d feel more comfortable knowing that two people I trusted rated him.

Quite interesting that Atalanta are interested too. When I watched them in the CL, they played a VERY similar way to the Blades. They get in your face, counter attack fast and guess what.... their CBs overlap!!!!

The only chance we have of signing a decent left centre half is from abroad

Every left footed defender in this country must know having a go at displacing JOC is pretty much mission impossible and career suicide. But with Bryan on his bike it's imperative we get one this window.

This lad sounds good.

The problem is Atalanta. They're about to rake in 30m+ from Kulusevski .

The problem for Atalanta is that they don’t get premier league levels of cash injections.

Could we not recall Norrington Davies from Rochdale He is supposed to be good
