Anyone seen the new Tony Currie biography and know if it's a rehash of the 'Quality Player' one of a few years ago? It is the same author but not seen the new one yet to check.

Was told by a friend. I need to browse to see if it is too similar to "Quality Player"

WOW! No wonder there's so many "50+" blades that refuse to give up on the club no matter how shit we get. If I watched quality like that growing up maybe I'd have a bit patience.
I'm one
It's not good cos 50+ means not a lot of seasons left in us so what will happen to our support if we don't have any success soon

I got onboard during the Bassett era, how much are the kids going to care who grew up watching the Blackwell, Weir, Clough and maybe even Adkins teams!? Scary.

Currie was different gravy
I was hooked after his first game when we beat Spurs 3-2, never missed a game he played home or away

one of the best games I have ever seen at BDTBL. The best performance was beating Arsenal 5-0 and Currie sitting on the ball just to annoy Alan Ball.

So, more patient now?

In response to Ball doing exactly the same thing in 1972.

Apparently though, when Currie did it, he decided to do it whilst in our own area and there was panic as it could've easily lead to us conceding a goal.

Great goal by TC but one thing that struck me is how much time he had. He sold the defender a very cheap dummy and the other defenders stood and watched while he made some space and stroked the ball in.

I didn't buy the first and I won't buy the second . I only ever saw him play once and that was for Leeds United . I've met him a couple of times and I didn't really like him . Shame that as I feel I should afford him the deference his undoubted talent deserves . I just can't do it :(

the mark of a great player
The mark of shit defending. If we'd conceded a goal like that there'd be fifteen threads blaming our defence. Not a criticism of TC, just an observation on how much the game has changed.

no need to apologise i got your point.. it still happens today with great players.. sometimes i watch messi, ronaldo and zlatan and i'm stood there thinking .. 'tackle him then!'

If a league 1 defence had to face a player like Currie they'd have been queueing outside the shrink's door come Monday morning.

I think they'd have been far more inclined to kick him off the pitch .

No chance. Great players of that era were masters of the long forgotten art of riding a tackle. The hatchet men of the day were far more intimidating than your average third division clogger of today.

Difficult to compare. I have no idea if TC would have the discipline to live the life of a modern player but assuming he did and was playing now, he'd be doing unbelievable things with a ball, much better than he actually did in his prime. The flat pitches, lightweight ball and boots would have really suited him.

cant resist

This is the same goal, right? South Stand under construction. Gives you a completely different perspective on the game.

he'd be doing unbelievable things with a ball,

Remember how he used to flick the ball up the side of his leg and catch it when he was taking a throw-in. probably because he couldn't be arsed to bend down and pick it up. Whatever, but I still don't know how he did that.

No, I'm too young.
