Not a dig at the fans but even the commentators described Bramall Lane as 'eerily quiet' and expressed surprise at droves of fans heading for the exits in injury time. The contrast between the aftermath of the derby win and the hammering we gave Coventry to tonight is almost unbelievable. There was a great atmosphere at the Cov game. The Lane was rocking. Tonight was completely flat. I mean we're still in it. But the momentum doesn't seem to be there. It could all change again of course with a victory. But there seems a lack of belief in the stands and on the pitch right now. It has to come from CW.

The fans have seen it all before, numerous times, we all know how this ends

The rot set in at Oxford, Wilder couldn't handle the pressure, lashed out at the fans and made himself look like a prick in front of his players and the media

Maybe if wilder gave us something to get behind.

He hasn't and isn't.

We have played shit for the vast majority of the season tbh.

The owners should wake up. If he acts the mardy arse and lays into the very people who create the atmosphere, well, don’t be surprised if they a) save their money or b) leave before the end. It’s theatre and if the promoter behaves like a cock and it’s a shit show expect boos and departures

It felt a bit of a shock on Saturday, especially with Wilder’s comments post match re the section of boos.

We aren’t exactly a team to get the fans on their feet through our ‘style’ as it is, so what on earth were those comments going to achieve?

Whether things would have panned out differently is unknown but for crying out loud don’t help make the atmosphere be any more tense… I think he’s mostly to blame for tonight.

It isn’t over by a long shot, but it’s difficult to be optimistic.

Sadly, I do think Wilder has to take some responsibility for that.

It was an odd moment in the season to create a divide with the fans. He showed cracks under the pressure coming into the game and it filtered up into the stands.

You could feel it before the game even started, only 25k there, their early goal just killed any hope of an atmosphere and a second turgid performance in a row lead to no one being arsed.
There has been a lot of these performances we’re we’ve sneaked over the line
When I watch us we look like an average championship side with a few ( 4) top end performances

I hope I'm wrong and still believe we can do it...but if you think of (and aye, I know Burnley are in the same boat) Leeds now, Ipswich last season and whoever (including us in the past) if you're a player you're absolutely busting your bollocks to get up to the absolute dream that is playing in the Prem.

When you've just had a bloody experience like we did up there, is there that same desperation?

The atmosphere is crap most weeks. Let's not pretend it was because of anything Wilder said.

Tonight was different, some fans took his advice and didn't show up.

Anyway at least he proved his point to the fans.....

Well Wilder did say don't stay and clap, so we didn't.

Seriously this guy just knows how to keep putting his foot in his mouth.

Not sure about that , the boos at the end were very loud!! All seriousness tho I sat in one of the boxes today it atmosphere seemed ok not sure if that's anything to do with the acoustic of the ground or what.

Because sadly, I think 25k people collectively had an epiphany moment…We simply ain’t good enough.

I thought the fans got a bit of an atmosphere going at times, but it’s always going to end up flat with a poor performance.

There isn’t a set of fans in the world that will create a decent atmosphere when their team puts in a performance like we witnessed tonight.

Didn’t help Millwall turning us around always kills the atmosphere 2nd half, once we failed to equalise before half time I feared that was it.

I wish they would scrap tossing for ends, let the home side decide which way they want to kick it’s their home advantage anyway.

First time I have ever left before the final whistle tonight when there has only been one goal in it. Okay it was in injury time but it was a combination of knowing we had no chance of scoring and also knowing a point was not really good enough anyway.

As the teams were walking out for the first half, I said to my mate ‘there’s a funny feeling in here tonight’.
It was strange - loads of empty seats near us on the South Stand, there wasn’t the usual pre-match buzz, you could almost sense a collective nervousness & folk just didn’t seem ready for the match.
Or maybe that’s just how I was feeling.

It wasn’t just you, we remarked just before kick off that it felt very flat. I think that, coming after the highs of the Pigs & Coventry matches when everyone expected us to kick on and be relentless as we did in the previous Wilder promotion seasons, the Oxford performance was very damaging and Wilder’s post match comments didn’t help the mood.
