Ebanks-Landell

Landell reminds me of Reda Johnson the big Wendy defender, good at league one level, scored a few goals along the way to them beating us to promotion but would anyone have valued him at 1-2 million of course not. Get a grip Blades and start to worry if they come sniffing round Coutts, Duffy or Fleck but Landell no.

It says everything about Hammond's true physical condition that he's not playing anywhere.

These two pillocks well and truly screwed us over, and I can't believe that Adkins didn't know that he'd lost whatever he had after a couple of games. Jesus, even Higdon has found a place at Bangor City

He might just be on a "gap year", funded by SUFC............

Isn't Webster a left footer? and at 29 not sure he's that good to be spending a possibly large fee to get him from Milwall.
Not impressed with Mcfadzean either from what i've seen of him.
If not EEL, then i'd hope wilder would be looking at someone of a similar age to him, who could improve into a consistent championship level defender.

I firmly believe we need another centre-back as well as EEL. We have to plan ahead and Jake Wright (admirable though he is) will be getting off the train at the next stop.

EEL, Lord Byron and JOC might cope as a unit in the League above.

Right-footer by the way...

Lambert said: “I wanted to see Ethan in training for a couple of days.

"I’ve been really impressed by his demeanour and his talking on the training pitch.

"He’s our player. I went to watch him against Walsall, a game that they lost and he played in a back three, which we don’t.

"But I was impressed by his communication, his demeanour and his attitude, which were all excellent.

"I’ll have a look at him on Wednesday and he’ll go back to Sheffield United and I’ll try and watch him.

"I don’t want to bring him back if he’s not going to play.

"That would be detrimental to him, I want him to keep playing."

Sounds promising.

That is managerspeak routinely used in the game to speak bollocks.

A translation into everyday English:

"I'm desperate and I'll try anything.
He's coming back because the other defenders here are shit and he might not be as shit as them.
If he has to sit on the bench then so be it. He is our player and Sheffield United can piss off"

It's the old problem with loanees - if they're crap we don't want him. If he's good, we fall in love with them and they don't stay. Memorable loanees include Conor Coady, Kevin Philips, Billy Clarke, John Harley, Kyle Bartley etc. And then we have the likes of Brayford, who flatter to deceive until a contract is signed. Maybe EEL is one of those?

You've got to feel sorry for the management and board in situations like this. Some on RS were saying that we should pay 'whatever it takes' for EEL. Do they mean £1m? £2m? I think we've been down this road with Brayford. I think EEL falls under 'Okay' and it's obvious both he and our style have benefitted from his presence, but it won't be a disaster if he goes or a failure on our part. Wolves are a similar-sized club to us and a division higher. Maybe EEL will buy into whatever Lambert tells him and he'll be gone.

Replacement? I think we've got a very strong bargaining hand for McFazdean at Burton. Brayford is out on loan there and we could use McNulty as a makeweight (if Clough wants him...)

With him - and Ched back in January - get the bunting ready.
Think it was Brian the Blade who said pay £2m for EEL, daft twat.

EEL is nothing like Reda Johnson.
EEL can defend Johnson couldn't full stop.
Any one paced player would glide past Johnson with ease, who's then only option was then to try and rugby tackle them to the ground.
Johnson scored a few goals for them that's why he has a bit of a cult status with them, but he was a shocking defender.
Not saying we should pay 1 or 2 million for EEL or that he is even worth that, but he's already a better defender than Johnson ever was.

Byron Webster is left-footed, though he's comfortable using his right

Webster has not played in half Millwalls first teams fixtures this season. 16 out of a possible 31

Is he injury prone or actually not good enough? If he is either, then why are we all jumping up and down to sign him?

You obviously missed when the Walsall striker drifted past him to score or the Coventry player drifted past him twice only for Basham to get him out of the shit both times. Add in the shocking back pass that so nearly cost us in the same game and suddenly this super star hat that some of our fans have put on him begins to slip a bit, I like the lad but irreplaceable he certainly isn't.

My apologies, I didn't realise that a left footed player was only allowed to use his left foot. Those pictures clearly prove how wrong I was.

Find one of him using his left, then, or stop dressing up guesswork as fact for some reason best known to yourself...

Unlike our non-striking runaround striker, who is absolutely indispensable according to the common wisdom on here. I know which one I would sooner replace...

Six pages in before an EEL thread gets hijacked by Agenda Man.

Do you have a view on Nick Montgomery or Dave Basset while you are here?

Defenders get beaten sometimes.

Ah, the "Limited Trier" section of the Most Unsophisticated Supporters in the Land Association leap to the defence of mediocrity again.

Done, Montgomery and Bassett eh? You have your standards; I'm content with my own...

I didn't realise you were seriously using those pictures as evidence to prove your point, I thought you were joking. And do you not see the irony in accusing others of using guesswork?

I've found plenty of pictures of him using his left foot and there's several footballing databases that list him as being left footed. There's also the fact that my mate played with him at Donny Rovers and he thinks he's left footed as well (though as I said earlier, he's very capable of using his right)

Either way though I don't care all that much, I just wanted to point it out. I've already apologised for being wrong and bowed down to the irrefutable 'evidence' that you've provided. I'm not sure what else you want from me.

From what I remember if Byron Webster he's more of a sweeper type than a big ball winning defender a la EEL, so I don't think he'd be a great replacement, more an upgrade on Jake Wright perhaps. So whilst I would take him, I would worry slightly that we'd be lacking a bit of physicality and aerial dominance at the back.

So why slum it down the Lane in the company of so many peasants, plebians and generally uncouth wretches.

Why not just watch Barca A v Barca B playing the 'right way', on a closed loop in the comfort of your own home? You'd only need to interrupt that wonderful display occassionally, to pen another missive to the uneducated masses.

There's no 'else' about it, thank you.

You remember wrong mate. He's 6-4 and plenty physical...

I remember he was big, but I definitely didn't get the impression he was a really physical type.

Did you not see those pictures posted above? They clearly prove that Webster is a physical player*

*Yes I know they don't prove anything of the sort but this Pinchy fella seems to know what he's talking about so I for one am willing to believe him
