Just listening to 'Praise and Grumble' and, just because the pigs have finally - luckily - got their first win in 12, it's full of 'Stevie Graaaay. Never doubted him. Steeeevie Maaay. Got the goal he's deserved.' etc. etc.
As a Blade, I'm not bothered as it keeps a distinctly average manager in a job. And that's what the vast majority of them are. Average. And I include Clough.

Around 40 thousand fools attended the two games in Sheffield these last two games. Why? Because we have a unique love for our teams, but these millionaire 'managers' manage to keep in work where the lowliest sales manager would be shown the door. The crawlers in the local media are as culpable - afraid to speak the truth.

Danny Wilson and Paul Dichov have shown their real form by losing, but will they be replaced? Obviously not, because the 'talent pool' of football managers is remarkably shallow.

the talent pool of footballers is shallower in ratio.

A lot of clubs can't afford to get rid of managers because it costs too much.

Easiest job in the world - working on the tills at poundland???

I don't think our love for our teams is unique. It's reflected in football fans across the country and across the world. If anything the intensity of that feeling makes a manager's job harder, because it sets expectations so high (I'm talking in general - not about us, specifically).

Given fans' expectations, and the fact that every league position in every division has to be filled, it's impossible for more than about a third of managers to be meeting the expectations of the fans of their club at any one time. As a result, most football fans spend most of their time dissatisfied - to a greater or lesser degree - with their team's performances and league position. It is a result of this that the average managerial tenure is only about one-and-a-half years. I'm confident that the average tenure of a sales manager (lowly or otherwise) before he is shown the door is considerably longer than that. On that basis, football managers are treated more harshly than Sales Managers.

In terms of your view of the quality of most football managers - I suspect the problem is that the job is much harder than it looks. We always think the problems are obvious and straight-forward to resolve, but if they were, wouldn't we all be in the profession earning a lot more than we are now?

I'm guessing this is more general chat than anything to do with us.

Another post about us being average. The team isn't playing well but you'd think we were in the bottom 3.

I hear so much "theyre shite footballers, terrible managers and we're great fans." Signing, motivating, drilling, coaching, organising and inspiring 11 footballers is a lot harder than paying £20 to sit on a seat you know.

According to your analogy, Clough is the 5th best 'sales manager' and we are not even halfway through the sales pitches.

But yeh, fans are great and everyone else is rubbish. Laughable.
