Earnshaw

I always find it odd that Sky employ someone who has an affinity to only one of the clubs they are commentating on.

it appears I’m in the minority but I quite enjoyed him. He’s not very good at it so he decides that the right thing to do is never shut up. It was quite amusing and on occasion insightful.

He’s not Goodman (hates us, no matter how much he denies it) or Hendrie (not too bright). He also seemed to be enjoying himself, which is a big plus for me.

I was watching on BeIn sports in oz and didn’t see the build up (pretty bleary after waking up at 2am on 3 hours sleep) so spent halftime FaceTiming my dad and trying to work out who it was with the non stop verbal diarrhoea. Really off-putting and assumed it was a low budget overlay for international audience. Glad I wasn’t alone in opinion or suffering.

Yeah I would have muted him if I had the option. Sounds like he's got more teeth than a dog fight. He spoke more than the main commentator who was actually very good.

He is quite informed, albeit with some contradictory comments, but he needs to speak less. Sure he's a nice guy obviously.

Just had to go and sit in a dark room for an hour after enduring Professor Earnshaw for 90 minutes. It's days like this i envy Helen Keller!

Never heard so much shite come out of one mouth in my life!
I had to press the mute button😳
He's like the mother in law that has to fill the silence with any old shite.
Tripe🙄

Yeh me too, I dont mind him at all , there are far worse.

I agree. I don't for a second think that he's "good" at co-commentary, but his style is refreshingly different from anybody else, and is amusing as you say. On another thread, I said that it sounds like he's never actually heard a co-commentator before. I'd much sooner have Earnshaw than 95% of the other cliched dross that gets served up.

Another pro-Earnshaw point: I have seen it said that he was too pro WBA and he didn’t talk about us but:

1. This was early on, when they were all over us, so of course you’d talk about them; and

2. If you were like me, and knew nothing about WBA this season beyond Maja and all the draws, that period was quite insightful as Earnshaw explained in detail how they’ve been doing and spoke about individual players. And he didn’t sugar coat it. He tried to explain where they have been going wrong.

Yeah, another one here who thought he was okay actually. I hadn't seen the Bristol game he'd commentated on, so was fearing the worst having read comments on here. I'm guessing he's fairly new to it and just comes across as perhaps a bit nervous and unsure of his style. Definitely didn't come across as biased and is a refreshing change from Goodman and Hinchliffe

He was better on this one than Bristol. He's basically harmless. He spouted about the baggies cos that's what he knows. But I like that when we had our mega 5 minutes he was gushing about it and it seemed genuine.

Yeah, he was definitely enthusiastic and excitable whenever there was a good touch or bit of skill. One funny moment was after a period of end-to-end action he nervously said "I didn't know when I should start talking!" 😆

Earnshaw covers every base, then acts like his inside footballing knowledge enables him to see the most basic shit that we can’t.

“Balls gone out of play, that’s either a corner, goal kick, or throw in…….throw in…..a ha it’s like I have a crystal ball”

That Bristol game was my first time hearing him and Jesus Christ, Robbie, come up for air lad.

Just incessant talking, adding minimal value. Insufferable. It's almost like he's trying to prove himself, trying to earn the next gig.

For god's sake man, speak less.
Bristol City not Bristol.

We aren't Sheffield.

The lad is mince.
Turned him to mute v Bristol after 20 mins and will do every time I hear him.
Talks absolute waffle. Some female commentators get stick, but he’s as bad as that Eluko lass with lots of inaccuracies so now top two worst about for me.
V Bristol City, not Bristol.

We aren't Sheffield.

My personal favourite form the other night, which may actually have been the main commentator:

"It's not going to end up 0-0 this evening," at a point in the game where at least 3 goals had already been scored.

Does anyone else miss Rob Hawthorne and Alan Brazil?

There was way too much unnecessary commentating/punditry during that game - can't they just keep quiet for a minute or two at times.

IMHO we are in a period of time where commentators on most sports are seriously bad, from football to motor racing they are a turn off, that's without mentioning the pundits, so obsessed with giving out endless stat after stat, let's hope the next group coming through are a step up o the current dredge

You are 100% correct. This is the most annoying thing in game. I've sometimes had to change the IPTV stream to get rid of these boring twonks

Yeah there was a period where the new style of using data during games gave a genuine insight as the pundits and co commentators used the data properly. They presented the data and didn’t impart too much opinion. It was all very new, fluffy and nice.

Now it seems that they have a point to make so find data to support it… game is 0-0 “yeah, well that’s because there have been low expected throw ins in the defensive half in the first 15 mins of Tuesdays game in the rain, so it’s probably due to high humidity that they haven’t scored today”

The other factor is that we’re now subjected to football on bbc, channel 4, bt/tnt, amazon and whoever else and that’s just in England. Then there is DAZN, Optus, BEIN to name a few that we all get now through IPTV streams, many of the pundits get pimped around but it’s a fight to work an angle. Controversial like carragher, loud and enthusiastic like Neville (seems to be morphing into Andy Gray), the attempt and being intelligent like Jamie Redknapp or Ferdinand…. And of course all the women

The only ones I really liked this summer were Shearer, Lineker and Shearer, better suited to live tournament football as they just used their experience to articulate what they saw. Being honest and direct. If was refreshing
