Well said. And as far as I can see there are a range of views expressed on that site. The difference being that the people expressing them show a lot more manners And courtesy when disagreeing with someone than certain individuals do here. People put forward their view without any accompanying insults towards other posters.

I would guess that this site was very similar before BU shut down and I would imagine that a lot of the people using this site before BU shut down wish it had never shut down and we'd never darkened their doorstep. And I wouldn't blame them for thinking that.

I think that was realised.

But, I'm afraid it is true that there are individuals on this site who are very insulting and rude to other posters on a regular basis, simply because they express views different to their own. And I'm not saying it's just those who are critical of most things the club does or says. Some of those whom you label 'clappers' are just as bad.

On that other site on which Duncan and quite a few others post, there are often differences of opinion, but there is not the vitreol and nastiness accompanying it. The only time I can remember anything getting particularly tetchy was when a West Ham supporter appeared and started making provocative remarks re the Tevez case. And in the end even that got discussed in a reasonable way.

The majority had good grace and a self-deprecating sense of humour. Discussions would get heated and end with the internet equivalent of a manly handshake.

All I can urge is that if anyone is being particularly rude or patronising, you report it to Foxy and myself. We've lost patience with those who can't use our site properly so they will be subject to our three-day holiday rule.

He was the first one on here to respond to Chapel Allerton's plea for London marathon sponsorship, which is pretty impressive for a non-poster, good on him, so he is at least visiting.

I think it's a shame he's no longer around, he was a good counterpoint to some of the more excessive negativity. I'm not aware of his reason for decamping, I can't imagine him being hounded out and surely he didn't get a life ban?

Me too Bert. I read most days, but rarely can be arsed to join in some of the stuff on here these days. Still some decent posters (and Dunc was one of those), but unfortunately it has been hijacked by some goons who seem to think they are intelligent and funny, but never display any of those traits.

Afraid those of us old enough to remember the start of the internet and the rise/demise of various messageboards can tell you its the circle of life. What starts as a fun venture normally descends into a pissing competition of those who know best against those who, uh, know best. The beauty of football is that we all see totally different things from 90 minutes. We all want different things from our club. Some just want something to support, no matter how good or bad and some want success, no matter how much it costs.

I admire what you do here, I really do. Its probably the best site that there has been for Blades, which is why it got the most posters. But even the biggest and the best (anyone remember unitedite.co.uk?) fall victim to bordom and an eventual lack of things to say. And when that happens people generally descend into punch and counter punch.

Familiarity breeds contempt. Always has and always will.

Definitely agree with this; BU was fun but was run was badly with little care for the community it was creating. Lack of care isn't certainly not a claim that could be held against Linz and Foxy.

I've always 'got' Bert - even back in the Viewpoints days when it seemed everyone wanted to battle with him (and H). It's taken me a while longer to 'get' some of the tongue in cheek from others - a taste acquired with age / experience / shared misery. If nobody described Bert as precisely a humourless windbag in the days that he and Len or he and Brownie or even he and Musical, Tit and others were exchanging banter then I'd be extremely surprise. I've no doubt several took an enforced break for much stronger.

I don't think anyone has said they've packed up, have they? Even Bert's post doesn't say he's packed up. And Dunc hasn't told anyone he's taken time out. Linz gave us that information. Dunc certainly hasn't been telling anyone. He simply ceased posting.

If you think my comments or anyone else's comments refer to you, fair enough. You must have a reason to think that. For myself, I tend to read the posts and remember the tone of them without actually remembering who wrote them. I would have to refer back to them to be sure, with perhaps one or two exceptions.

I know you write a lot of posts that are very very critical of many aspects of the club. But I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what criticisms you have been making, apart from that you didn't like Blackwell, I can't remember whether or not you liked Speed, and I think you're not too keen on Adams and possibly McCabe. Not 100% sure about the last bit though.

I wouldn't be able to say whether or not you have been abusive to other posters. I simply can't remember whether or not you have. But from your response I would guess you probably have.

Whilst we are all Blades surely we don't have to agree a common line ?
Anybody who thinks Blackwell was great for the club is not getting at me because I happen to have a diametrically opposite view - It's called opinions
I have several that many would disagree with - not a major problem to me that is !
For instance: Monty has played so many times for the Blades that he must have made a contribution to the cause - I would agree with that statement but I don't think he is worth the salary or contract he is currently enjoying at the moment because I believe there are many other footballers being paid less but with much more football ability than our beloved Monty Just my opinion, but I don't have issues with people that thinks the sun shines out of his backside! I just think they're wrong !!!

I think this board has become better for the influx of some of the ex-BU mob. I didn't like BU because of the patronising and condescending way that Webbo was, and in the end it turned in to a game of how far i could push him.

Linz, with all due respect, I think the term "get a life" would probably be the most apt phrase to describe anybody who would consider being banned from an internet message board for 3 days as some sort of punishment. Erm hang on, not you btw, i mean a person being banned lol.

I really do find this sort of virtual world stuff so funny. Its ok to pass half hour on every now and again - you know when you cant be arsed to go to the pub, but that really is what it is. Whatever happened to the days when half of Sheffield would meet at the fish tanks in the hole in the road :'( awwwww them were the days. Most people didnt even have a house phone, never mind tinternet or a mobile phone lol.
