Well, you bunch of fooking clappers. A performance like that and people are defending Speed and the players.

(As Lenners pointed out in another thread) you can move the deck chairs around but you are still stuck in the same shit. We might have moved the deck chairs around, but we are still stuck on Blackpool beach. Speed might be the new boss, but we are still up to our neck in shite.

My prediction of 13th is looking optimistically high at the moment. Oh dear, oh dear.

Well I'm not, and never have been, a clapper Ollie. Although I am, in all things in life, an eternal optimist. I like optimists, they tend to be much nicer people to spend time with.

But I guess that the vast majority of people are prepared to give a new manager longer than 5 days to turn around what has become a deeply ingrained culture of absolute crap. Following Hartlepool & QPR things had pretty much reached rock bottom, and to expect confidence sapped players to perform like Barcelona on Sunday would be naive at best.

Lets take the few plusses. He is encouraging them to pass the ball, but they are not used to it, so it won't just click into place overnight. He is talking about making signings - if that includes some pace, things will begin to look a bit different.

I don't know if Speed will succeed or not, and nor does anybody else on here, but unlike some (and I don't include you in this, by the way) I really hope he does.

Speeds been left with dog ends and nearly men. Blackwell was making do with having the rug pulled from under him. Speed has been promised money to spend, be interesting to see how many players we nearly sign.

There is a real danger about the current situation. New untried manager 3 games into a season. Dressing room must be in pieces right now (hence ertles comment about how good it is), Chairman who wouldn't part with a fart if he didn't have to and a club in apparent freefall. If Speed does stabilise this ship then he should be given the freedom of the city. If he does it playing good football even better. However, questions I would like answered are:-

Why, if you sacked Blackwell 1 defeat into a season didn't you do it when we failed to make the play offs last season? This was classed as failure to most and hence the time to go was then, not now.

Is Speed going to be any better? He was Blackwells 1st team coach after all.

Where has all the money gone Kevin?

Answers to some of those questions I am sure will be coming before the transfer window slams shut on our fingers.

My opinion we have gambled big on the cheap option of a manager. If it bites us on the arse I wouldn't be surprised. I also wouldn't be surprised if we are still bottom half of table at Christmas.

Any new manager is a gamble. But looking at the list of potential candidates, I'd only have taken SoD or Curbishley, and I'm not certain either would have accepted. So as gambles go, this one wasn't outrageous.

As for the money question, McCabe has gone for it with United in the past, but now wants to see the thing run itself. That means we cannot compete with those clubs who have benefactors or those who don't bother paying the taxman. Tough, innit?

Don't buy that for a minute. McCabe has spent as much of his money firing managers with a couple of years left on their contracts as he has on players. Sure he chucked a few million in when Robson bought his team in, but hasn't he had that money back and then some from the parachute payments and then the transfer fees from these players as we sold them on?

BT, Killer, Tonge etc etc didn't go for buttons. We even got decent money for Hulse and Stead. When you add it together I think it comes to more than we have spent. So in effect I don't think McCabe has spent a bean of his own recently.

As for rich benefactors, I am sure the buyers of Billy Sharp don't have a rich benefactor or are cheating the taxman. Tough? No, feeling robbed? yes.

Hes way richer than SuperBlade isn't he? Lets compare apples with apples if we are going to make statements like that.

Oh and while we are on the candidates list regarding Managers, we waited the sum total of 48 hours before our appointment. It hardly left anyone any time to get their name in really did it? The entire thing was a joke. Typical SUFC cheap option. He may well be the right man and christ I hope he is, because if he isn't we are in for a really, really tough time.

I don't buy this 'cheap option' - Gary Speed was a good choice!
It is his job now to replace the 'cheap option' midfield of Montgomery and Quinn - then we may start to create something going forward!

Whether he is a good choice will remain to see. I hope he is as does everyone, but lets not pretend that SuperBlade wasn't rubbing his hands together knowing he wasn't going to have to either pay compensation to another club for their manager or pay the wage demands of a decent manager.

Its the cheap option, it may however prove to be the right option. Lets hope so.

As for replacing the midfield, he was first team coach so I wouldn't be expecting to see too many changes.
