Duffy the forgotten man.

He might come back
He will not be added to the 1st team 25
He will likely go out on loan to a different club
He might secure a permanent move elsewhere

The team has moved on, grown and improved. With Wilder there is no going back, he has already said he'll be trying to add 2 or 3 in the window and adding Duffy to the 25 restricts his options to do that.

Makes me sad to see how our fans have so little respect for one of the greatest players we’ve seen in decades.

Duffy has been a lower league journeyman and made less money than any of our players. He’s also the wrong age with little chance to make enough money from the game to secure his future.

His agent has probably advised him to strike whilst the iron was hot. He was our only creative outlet last season so probably felt he had some negotiating power. Fortunately McGoldrick has shown that he can also do a kind of Duffy role.

If I ever saw Mark Duffy I’d buy him a drink and thank him. You can bet if Wilder loses a few or joins a bigger club some of our fans will be slagging off Wilder.

He'll never be forgotten by me. The best thing he could do would be pick up the phone to Wilder, thrash out the whys and wherefores of his exit, apologise for any overstepping of any marks and ask if he'd be welcome back at the club on the condition he works his arse off. Worst case scenario is he becomes a squad player in what seems to be turning out a very respectable season. He might even force his way onto the bench. There's an FA Cup match on the horizon. It's not as if we're lacking examples of where hard work and application can take previously lower league players now is it?
i agree 100%

Yes the boat has sailed on him slightly, but fuck it , if he wants to make amends i am all for it. He will be a low-cost backup option with suspensions/injuries sure to be rising in the new year, if he could agree to be backup for Freeman/Didzy and swallow his pride with this whole affair then why not

Edit - didn't consider the 25 man squad limitation - maybe the boat has sailed!

Jeez he doesn’t get forgotten on this forum!

I’ve seriously no feelings towards the lad at all nowadays.

Yesterday's man Swizzler!

We've moved on. Our tactical system has moved on. The game has moved on.

Seems some on here would have him straight back in. If the rumours about us having Rodwell on trial, it'd be a long way back for Duffy!

Hardly a secret, but there were already undercurrents that strained the relationship between player and manager. The story goes that Duffy, in an attempt to secure another contract on improved terms, told the manager that there were clubs interested in him, so taking Duffy at his word, Wilder told him to look elsewhere.........fast forward, here we are. One decent player struggling to secure a place in anyone's team, and the teams who were meant to be interested seem to have taken their interest and looked somewhere else. If anyone was in doubt about Wilder's resolve, with all the background that seems common knowledge, then I doubt we'll see an episode like this in future. Ravel's a good example, given a great opportunity to secure a contract what does he do......it's anyone's guess, but Morrison won't be signing for this club once his current agreement runs out.

If there's a moral to this, then don't fuck about. It's not SUFC's fault if a player isn't worth what they imagined they should be paid.

I loved Duffy, a clever, inventive player that gave us many options, and as for Ravel, well if ever someone lived off a reputation that had hardly any substance to it, it was this guy. What they seem to ignore is that they work in an industry that is overburdened with players seeking employment. Norwood's a great example of someone who came here, took his chance, showed what he's capable of, and has embraced everything that Wilder is about. It's simple, don't fuck about, don't imagine you're more deserving that anyone else when the facts say otherwise.

Player's choose to pursue a career in football if they're fortunate to be considered good enough. Surely they must realise that at best they've got approximately 15 years in which to play at a decent level and in the process enjoy some of life's most basic needs - buy a house, save some money, enjoy a decent quality of living, etc, etc.......beyond that it's down to them to consider what awaits them in terms of employment, and whether they can use their careers as launchpads for something as lucrative as the careers they enjoyed. If they seek sympathy for not making more of their lives then whose responsibility is it if they've not achieved more than they'd hoped for.

Wilder has confirmed that Rodwell is having a look at us and we’re having a look at him. So yes, long way back for a former hero that got too greedy

He's on a season long loan there isn't he? If so, they will be paying a significant chunk (if not all) of his wages, so why would we look to find him another loan? His stock now will have depreciated significantly so no club will be willing to pay him big bucks.

Sorry Duff, you are a fool. Your father and the other twats who were dissing Tufty are fools too. It's like The Jam said ....... you made your bed you'd better lie in it.

You had the chance to play prem football, but you chose to be an arse. No hard feelings and thanks for the memories, but we have moved on.

He was signed by Scunny when they were in the championship so that would have been decent money. Then a year at Donny in the championship and then another championship contract at Brum. That’s all before he joined us.

He’s done OK. He won’t be going to a food bank for his Christmas dinner.

Is he allowed to sign for another (3rd) club this year? Don't know the rules re number of clubs and timescale??

You're implying that Ravel has an attitude problem, can I ask what that's based on?

There's no implication.....all anyone has to do is follow the dots, bags of talent apparently, but for whatever reasons there seems to be issues with authority, and if not then there are issues with something that has prevented Ravel from progressing into a genuinely good, possibly great, player. No doubt you seem to have your own opinion, but Wilder took a chance on a player that many seasoned managers have done before. Each time the same behaviour causes a rethink and Ravel is allowed to seek employment elsewhere........hope that helps.

Does there seem to be issues with authority though? What exactly makes you think that?

I don't have my own opinion, and that's really my point: I don't know the lad, I've never seen him train, I haven't spoken to Wilder about him, so I'm not going to make any statements about his character.

I know hes had behavioural issues in the past - my point is that there's no evidence that those same issues persist. In fact, him still being here is pretty good evidence that there aren't any behavioral issues, as Wilder doesn't seem the type to simply put up with that kind of thing.

It's entirely possible that he was signed based on his potential, and it simply hasn't worked out. It could be the standard set by our current midfield, it could be a fitness issue, could be stylistic.

there is zero chance wilder will be interested in having hom back i can almost guarantee you. duffy is more useful to wilder where he is; as an example of what happens if you play silly buggers.

It could be down to anything, but what each of us is left with is a set of incidents and apparent behaviour patterns from which we draw an opinion. As for there being no signs of any behaviour patterns, maybe he's being allowed to see out the year-long agreement he was signed to, but in the process a decision has already been made regarding his future at this club.

Of course he was signed on his potential, that would be the only thing Wilder would be interested in. When you say there's no evidence of any current behaviour patterns, maybe, maybe not, but I guess that whatever lies at the root of Ravel's inability to impress Wilder, what does seem clear is that he's unable to improve our existing squad, otherwise Wilder would waste little time in securing his signature to something longer than a year.

I completely understand that a series of incidents or behavioural patterns would help inform an opinion, and if you are of the opinion that Ravel has an attitude problem, it's an point of view you're more than welcome to hold.
I'm a big believer in peoples ability to change however, especially those who made mistakes at a relatively young age, or come from tough backgrounds, such as Ravel. I'm the same age as Ravel, and despite indiscretions and mistakes in my past, I'd like to think that if you met me, you would see that I'm a good person. Hopefully the same can be said about Ravel.

You can draw conclusions from Wilder not playing him or signing a new contract if you wish, but I won't. After all, someone such as Richard Stearman is in the same boat, yet I have no reason to doubt his character.

And you may be right that Ravel hasn't impressed Wilder, though it's certainly not a fact. What is a fact is that he earned his contract through a combination of a successful trial and glowing references from his former coaches in Sweden - neither of which support the theory that he is misbehaving.

I for one would be delighted if Duffy came back and tried to get a taste of PL football. Been probably my favourite player to watch ever for the blades.

Wilder wouldn’t cut his nose off to spite his face. If Duffy wants to come back work hard and bury the hatchet then that would be fine with me.

Would he be starting for us, no, probably not. Could we have done with him when trying to breakdown Newcastle... very much so (imo). Would be a nice end to his time here if he at least got on the pitch for a couple of minutes of PL football - otherwise I’d feel like he’ll forever regret forcing his way out.

Morrison still in and around the squad. Suggests he’s still training every day.
Which in turn implies he isn’t considered to have a role in the side at the moment. Just like a few others.

Much as I would have loved him to come in and set the league alight, so far that isn’t the case. Of course he may get a chance but unless we get a lot of injuries it seems unlikely.
IMHO he needs to get himself to a club where he can play every week, be the main man and excel. Lower half championship and build a reputation and club along the way.

He will still have the cup games I reckon.

i was sad to see him go. of course he was a fantastic player & not a stretch to say we were a 1 man team at times. why he threw a wobbler at that time is ridiculous your about to play in premier league. shut up & stay quiet

but sport moves on extremely quickly & we dont play that system anymore. duffy wouldnt fit

May I be the first to say ‘fuck him’?

Quite clearly badmouthed Chris to his dad, Mrs and family hence his big fat fucking father giving it the big en on Facebook groups comparing Wilder to the Third Reich.
And if you’re letting them dictate your career you want your bumps feeling. Bet he feels a right cunt now.
Weird family that I hope we can be rid of by January 30th.

Thanks for everything Mark, but cya.

Duffy was Good for us and of course swillsborough won’t be forgotten because the part he played in the “BOUNCING DAY MASSACRE”
But he made his bed so to speak. Not our problem
