Duffy missing Coutts

With respect I disagree, for some reason the loss of Coutts has coincided with a now reluctance to get decent balls in early enough without fannying around to cause a problem and give strikers a chance. Coutts was not often the one to play the killer pass and whilst he had a few assists my recollection is its only a small fraction of goals we scored. We have rose tinted spectacles, the problem is elsewhere or we would have been doing better by now. .

Absolutely categorically not true.

The key reason why we are not getting decent balls in early enough is 100% due to the fact we are not quick enough in the build up to develop an overload, have the vision to spot an overload, have the technical ability to exploit the overload if it’s there and to move / pass the ball at sufficient pace IN FRONT OF THE ADVANCING PLAYER SO AS TO TAKE IT IN STRIDE (rather than to feet or behind which will slow the pace down).

Our build up is noticeably slower without Coutts. FACT.

I personally disagree. I actually think Duffy has stepped up since Coutts has been out and has been our best player. The team as a whole miss Coutts and it does put more pressure on Duffy to create but I think he's been great on the whole throughout our poor run.

In reply to the OP think Duffy has struggled when teams have parked the bus (Bolton and Pigs) and closed Duffy down quickly (clearly singled out as United's main creative source). When teams take us on head on, think Duffy has still done well at times.

For me the player who seems to have gone off since Coutts' injury (whether it's related or not, I'm not sure) is Enda Stevens. Started the season brilliant, but last few weeks has not lived up to the high standards he'd set early doors. I'd give Lafferty a run.

I think Duffy AND Holmes with one of them partnering Clarke might work quite well. If they both interchange positions it may unlock park the bus defences like pigs and Bolton.

Also brooks a big miss from the bench at the mo
