We all know how good Duffy is.
3 of my work colleagues were playing 5 A Side last week and on the opposing side was a certain mr Duffy!!.
Of course the lads didn't recognise him but Chris who is quite handy just kept saying:: bloody hell this guy is class as Duffy nutmegged him on numerous occasions!!. My mate Sean who was in goal had a bad time as Duffy put 5 goals past him!!.
Needless to say after the game they were knackered but Duffy looked as though he was on a training session!!.
The lads felt a little better when they realised it was Duffy who had beaten their team heavily.
Duffy is class. UTB

I didn't see the TC era but in my time I don't recall seeing many more skilful players in a Blades shirt.

Seriously, in terms of skill can anyone think of any better in recent(ish) years?

I have a theory on Sheff Utd fans collectively berating creative players who are class acts. Kevin McDonald, Leon Britton, Paul Ifill or more recently Coutts all took some venom if every single pass, cross, through ball etc. doesnt come off.

Duffy seems to have took a bit of that but over time got all of the fans on his side. Perhaps his goal against the Pigs did it, but whenever he doesn't play we miss him badly.

Id value Fleck at around 8mill but if Duffy was his age he'd be 10mill+ imo.

Not being funny but I'm not sure CW would have been that impressed if he'd done his cruciate playing 5 aside against of bunch of cloggers!

Nope, I've got it in the neck for doing my toe at forum football... Another pre-season where I'm not quite going to be match-fit for the first team.

The insurance won't cover it either.

Did he push any of them over in the car park afterwards?

Yes.

Kevin McDonald.
Michael Brown.
Paul Devlin.
Colin Morris.

McDonald and Brown were both very effective and good players, but I wouldn't say they were necessarily more skilful than Duffy. Skillful, to me, denotes a measure of trickiness, ball-control and dribbling ability, as well as the mentality to play in such a manner as much as possible. Brown and McDonald are more comparable with Fleck. Devlin is definitely more in the Duffy mold. Colin Morris is before my time, so i'll take your word on that one.

Edit: Ndlovu would be another one i'd add to the pile. Don't know if he's more skilful than Duffy per se, but he's up there

Not as far as I know. My mate Sean who was in goal is full of it because he played football against mark Duffy!!. The lucky twat. UTB
Wouldn't have put 5 past the Young Boys keeper.....

Unlike me.

“Skilful” to me encompasses more than dribbling ability. If it was mainly that I’d agree with what you’ve posted 100%.

Agree with Ndlovu. Also you could add JCR to that list. He had what you describe in spades. Just didn’t do much with it!

Yeah fair enough really, I think it comes down to how narrowly you define it. I agree it's more than just dribbling, though that is a fair part of it. Movement off the ball is also a big factor, as well as simply the intent of the player in what they're trying to do. I partially think of it as the determination, in what is a team sport, to play more individually. The best players do this to the right degree without being selfish.

Jaime Murphy would be another recent one who I would add.

Nice to see he's not forgotten his roots or his mates though.

Ohhhh snore off, its pre season

With you to some extent but Leon Britton ? Never.

Massive disappointment for me - never did anything more than go through the motions for us, happy to abdicate responsibility at any available opportunity and showed not an ounce of passion or determination.

I clearly remember one situation when one of our big clumsy defenders, Nosworthy I'm pretty sure, passed it infield to him from the right hand touch line. He was in acres of space but, without even looking up, he passed it straight back to him.

The defender gave him the ball back and again, he passed it straight back to him, at which point he hoofed it upfield then turned and gave him a big round of fucks, and deservedly so.

High on my list of Players Who Didn't Give a Fuck.

Duffy on the other hand is different gravy altogether and should not be mentioned in the same breath as that little tosser. Up there with Colin Morris in my view, and it doesn't get much better than that.

Pre-season or not, professionals under contract aren't generally allowed by their clubs to play in such social matches.

Insurance can be affected not just the risk of short term injury.

As an academy player I wasn’t even allowed to play for my school
