Here we go. Another Doyle bash.

As somebody else has posted on this forum recently - he's the unsung hero in the team. Our team at present without Doyle would be a lot worse than with Doyle.

Suppose we always need a player to target though.

Every season in which Doyle has been at the Club we've finished lower than the last, a trend that's set to continue this year. That should spell 'abject failure' in anybody's book.

Can you name any of our squad who've been at the club longer than just this season that are are any different? So by your argument they are all abject failures. So why just single out Doyle?

People may not rate Doyle but to take your club captain away when you are struggling would be suicide in my opinion. If he leaves in the summer thats fine i expect a full re build like charlton did a few years back, i then expect the same result.

I'm guessing Guesty means it's because he's supposed to be the leader of the team.

Which begs the question how many managers has he seen off now?

As madeinSheffield says, he is Captain. To preside over such a decline over such a period is risible. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those that thinks Doyle can do no right, I've seen him have some excellent games for us. What I've very rarely seen is him displaying any leadership, whether that be geeing up team mates (which I appreciate may be missed from the stands) or, more importantly, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and dragging United back into it. He never does it, he simply isn't capable. We seem to finish every season on a downer and the lack of mental strength in the side since the days of Mickey Adams is palpable. Doyle isn't solely responsible for this by any means but he is captain, he should shoulder some of the blame.

And I didn't just single Doyle out, this thread is about Doyle. Ergo, Doyle was the topic of discussion. And anyway as Sheffielder says, only Collins has been here as long I think. And we have his annual late season collapse in form to look forward to.

I think Doyle has had the captaincy thrust upon him ,as in the only one who will have it. Only guessing but I presume Collins doesn't want it and who else is there ,or has there been ?

The tea lady would be an adequate replacement for Doyle !!!

To improve on him would be better tbh.
